I believe my best service is the best closing gift.

CLOSING GIFTS....That OPENS THE DOOR

I always wondered why this process is called 'CLOSING'.

Don't you think it should be called something else. Anything other than closing.

Anything that describes not the end but the beginning. Closing sounds as if you are 'done' with it!

The same is true for the relationships built 'before' and 'during' this process of fulfilling someone's dream and continues 'after' this is accomplised. (I hate to call it a transaction!)

Is this the end? Or is this the beginning of new relationship?

As always, we celebrate the new beginings - by gift-giving. These gifts are the 'Thank You' for your trust on me and 'Thank You' for giving me an opportunity to serve you. (Yes, some of you may say, well, this is to attract future referrals. Well, who does not do that?)

So, question here is - what do I give as a closing gift?

Let me start with....my MOST favorite closing gift.

You see the picture on left? It's the desk-clock with pen. With my name engraved on it.

And yes, that's my most favorite gift. It still sits on my work desk - after many years, it's still my most favorite.

And you know why?

That was a gift given to ME from my client...They were so happy when we closed. I had gone everything possible to make sure they get the home they loved!

Now let me tell you about the gift that I always have loved (yes, liked is a little understatement!) - other than the one I just mentioned. After all, this is about GIFT-GIVING.

Let me share an incidence:

I received a call at about 11PM one early evening in March from my client (and now, a friend) who had just bought and closed on a home a few days ago. As a client, he had no liberty to call me at that time, but as a friend, it was always Okay to call.

It's still cold in New England - at times, till late April. And that was a cold night.
The message from my client was - the heating system was not working as expected - despite it was serviced before closing. Something was not right. And being a first time home buyer, he had no clue on what to do, so he called me.

I gave him a toll-free number to call and someone was there to fix the system in few hours.

Another incidence and another first time home buyer -
I'll try to keep it short: This was a call from a friend - also a client. The dishwasher did not work properly, leaked and the water damage was not only in the kitchen floor, water ran into the finished basement and the basement was wet, too.

A same toll-free number and not only dishwasher was replaced,
they received some compensation towards replacement of basement carpet, too.

So, what is this closing gift that helps my clients even after CLOSING? Some of you may have got it by now.

IT IS A HOME WARRANTY (FOR FIRST YEAR!).

It's a peace of mind  - at least for the first year: It is FIRST YEAR'S HOME WARRANTY.

Many of my clients have renewed it ON THEIR OWN year after year after year - and no doubt, the deductibles have gone up since the first time I gave that gift, the prices have gone up, too. But, that's still the best gift I can think of.

It is a closing gift that opens up a new door with warm feelings and peace of mind.

I'd like to repeat my question - and perhaps some of you will have an answer or may be, a suggestion:

What other name can we give to Real Estate Closings?

Thanks ActiveRain. The ideas we learn here - including hundreds of them for closing gifts - are far more valuable than learning from ANY other school.

This is a great re-blog.  The "closing gift" should be considered more as the start to a long relationship, instead of a "closing gift."  We all want to keep these relationships for a lifetime. Thanks for sharing this one!
