Someone, I can't remember who, said (I'm paraphrasing) "most people tell the truth most of the time, otherwise society as we know it could not exist."  I would like to make the case that all Real Estate Brokers and Agents should tell the truth all the time.

It is morally the right thing to do.

  1. It is the law.
  2. It is good business practice.

Any one of these three reasons is enough to justify complete truthfulness.

It is morally the right thing to do.  Besides, knowing that we have been truthful gives us a good feeling, which can promote both physical and mental health.

It is the law.  Real Estate practice is highly regulated by federal and state laws, and being truthful can go a long way toward keeping a clean license, and keeping us out of court - both civil and criminal.

It is good business practice.  I'm convinced that being truthful all the time results in more business and more income.  Being known as trustworthy is a valuable asset in our profession, and the best way to be known as trustworthy is to always be trustworthy.

Because it is right, because it is the law, and because it is good business, it is a good idea for all Real Estate Professionals to tell the truth all the time.

Though the temptation may exist to sometimes stretch the truth, I like that we are held to a very high standard.  I know it keeps me on the straight and narrow. Great post!

Ed, I liked the post, good job.  I agree that it is the right thing to do regardless of what the other consequences may be!
