Memorial Day barbequesThe official start of Summer is finally here!

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

It's a time to honor the men and women of our armed forces for their service to our country and their brave sacrifices.  It's also a time for burgers, barbeques, and parades.

While many Americans are getting ready to hit the road for the weekend, others are laying out the lounge chairs and preparing the pool for the traditional opening of pool season.  At my condo in Alexandria Knolls West, pool preparations have been in full force for the last few weeks.  The water is sparkling blue and clean, the hot tub is filled, and the lounge chairs were set up yesterday to ready things for the weekend.  Similar efforts are taking place all over Northern Virginia.  While this weekend may not be warm enough to dive right in, be assured that the hot Summer weather is on its way.

Having your own pool or access to a community pool can be an important criteria in a Northern Virginia home search.  Whether you decide to purchase a condominium, townhouse, or single family home, there just may be a pool in your future, no matter your price range.  Read more about pools: Pool Party: What's the Price?

Memorial Day does seem to be an all American holiday.  I'm going to the baseball game.

Brian,

I think in this area the only way to go with a pool is one in the community or condo.  We only get a few months use each year, unlike so many of our sunny state bloggers.  I'm thinking about putting one of those small "treadmill" pools in my back yard, but then I realize what a pain it would be to take care of it.

this is a great post!  who wouldn't want to find a home that includes a community pool with practically no maintenance!  i am looking forward to a relaxing weekend at the beach!

Even when weather conditions are not quite right for taking a plunge, the appearance of crystal clear pool water makes me think summer fun.

I have yet been able to justify the cost of the installation and maintenance of a pool when so many other pools are available. We have such a short season here in Michigan using the local pools seems so much more reasonable.

PAT:  While pools are nice to have, they certainly are a lot of maintenance, especially for the 3 or 4 months of use we get here.  In warmer climates, it's nice to have a pool year-round.  I can just picture you in that treadmill pool!

TERRY:  Yes, I can understand in Michigan that the pool season must be quite short -- what is it?  About a month?

TOM:  The weather was gorgeous all weekend long!  Though I was too busy meeting with clients, showing homes, holding an open house, etc. to enjoy it much.

JASON:  Thanks, my friend.  A Mojito sounds really good just about now.
