Is it acceptable to ever bring a pet to a Home Showing?

By

Does it look like we live in a barn? Was the question a FSBO seller asked me. He has been trying to sell his home on his own for some time here in the Manchester NH area. I met him earlier in the week at Home Depot where I was getting some keys made. He asked if I was in real estate, we spoke briefly and i gave him my card.

You never know if a FSBO will call you back and when they do, you do not expect this type of response. He was begging me for answers.

He said he could not believe the amount of buyers who showed up to see his home with pets in hand or on a leash. "What makes a buyer think it is ok to bring a pet to a strangers home?" The basic answer is two fold, by allowing everyone in to see your home, the fsbo created this situated by not pre qualifying buyers first before letting them in. Secondly, some buyers do not know any better.

"How does he solve this?" he asked. He does not know how to pre qualify a buyer. This is a part of real estate most sellers never think of. How many strangers did he have in house that could not even buy a home? Nearly all of them he said. He thought it was easy. He never thought people would take things during showings. He never thought people wold bring dogs in his house and they would pee on his new carpets.

The seller is ready to list. He is ready to have things done right. He is ready to eliminate this stress in his life. He is ready to sell his home, not have it it on the market. We discussed asking price, what the home will most likely sell for and his timing to close.

The MOST IMPORTANT message is to share with every consumer that my philosophy is simple, provide more personal and professional service to guide clients through each step of the buying or selling process. All Agents are not created equal and every buyer or seller should take the time to hire the BEST not just the biggest. Those that hire me, find a dedication like no other.

Good morning Scott. A very small percentage of people can successfully sell by themselves. And a large percentage of those are just plain lucky! Enjoy your day!

Good morning

Thank you for sharing your information with us, I can't think of any reason other than a service animal.

Have a great day.

NO!.  Bring a service dog...a real service dog is not a pet but the homeowner may b e allergic so permision  must first be asked.

I see way to many dogs used as "service dogs" that are clearly just pets.

Good morning, Scott Godzyk I would have rescheduled that appointment.... and after denying that pet in the home, I'm sure I would not be working with buyer again.... so distasteful.

Unless it's a service animal, there's no reason to bring a dog to a stranger's home... I've never even had a client ask to do so. If they bring their dog with them in the car, they know to leave the dog there while they look.

As you say, some buyers don't know any better. We had a coupe show up to a small condo unit with 2 big dogs. They let them out and I thought they were just going to give them water...but no, they thought they would going on the tour - Needless to say they weren't invited!

An assistance animal, sure.  A pet, never!  That's just the most impolite thing I can imagine.

I really can't find any reason that would be acceptable to bring a pet into a seller's home without permission.

I love dogs, but even I was unhappy when a client showed up with his huge dog and loaded him into my vehicle. That dog hadn't been brushed out in years, and it took me a couple of hours to vacuum out the car the next day.

In all my 36 years as a Realtor, I don't recall more than one incidence where a buyer brought an animal to a showing.  It was a seeing eye dog.  And, the buyer agent called first to ask if it would be OK.

Morning Scott.

If that is his home, I'll take it if I lived in your area.  Personally I would love it.  For the seller, lesson learned the hard way
