Why Some Sacramento Agents Ignore Bay Area Agents

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

It seems like everybody wants to guard their own little niche. I've had agents call from southern California (usually San Diego) and ask if I would take a listing for them and then give them 50% (in some cases, 75%) of my commission. They say they want to use my company, my name and my photographer to set up their listing in MLS, and then they will take the phone calls and manage the transaction.

Excuse me? That's gonna happen over my dead body. Did you just get your real estate license?

But maybe they are thinking about themselves. Because that's the kind of proposal they must love. Free money and no work. They must not give a crap about their reputation.

On the other hand, we deal with Bay Area agents a lot in Sacramento. That's a whole 'nother game. There are agents in Sacramento who try to avoid them, but not this Sacramento Realtor. Nope, I love Bay Area agents!! You can read more in my personal blog and find out why today at this link: Benefits of Working With Bay Area Agents to See Sacramento Listings.

There you go making sense again.  Imagine, doing what is right for the seller and not letting ego or the want to double end a deal, get in the way of that.  You are a fantastic listing agent beause you understand that the seller's best interests are your best interests.  Bring on the Bay Area agents and their buyers!

Chris Ann Cleland So strong was the resistance in Sacamento to working with Bay Area agents that our MLS once stated that if the agent is not a member of our board, we don't even have to pay them a commission. I don't know if that is still true, though. Can you imagine that?

I can not imagine not paying the commission to any cooperating agent.  My guess would be the listing agents getting twisted about Bay Area agents not being a member of your MLS, are those that struggle to make a few sales a year.  They don't get the whole abundant thinking bit.

HI Elizabeth... I'm always happy to work with the buyers of agents who are just outside of my market area... sometimes it's a listing of mine that sells, sometimes they just want a referral fee, sometimes they pay me a referral fee for a couple of quick showings. As for listings, no way do they get all my work and expertise for 50% of the commission!

I think it would be very risky to be involved in that type of shenanigans, Elizabeth.  Think about it. . .It's YOUR company, YOUR name and YOUR photographer.  But, they will do the talking.  Sounds like that could be a fast track to losing your reputation if they behave badly.  But, I know I'm only preaching to the choir here.
