Tired of Robocallers?

Robocalls are at an all time high, according to a recent report by the Patch.  There were 3.36 billion robocalls in April of 2018 in the United States, accounting to 10.4 robo calls per person. Aside from annoying, the data shows that it's getting even more annoying - April 2018 had 34% more calls than April of 2017.

The US Congress held a hearing on robocallers in 2013 and published their findings here. Nationwide, the most common types of robocalls are payments/debt and health insurance spam, and in Area Code 908, the most common types of robocalls are payments/debt and loan spam. Atlanta, GA, is ranked as the city with the most robocalls in the country and Newark, NJ is the number 10 city in the Country. New Jersey is ranked as the State that receives the 13th most robocalls. You can view the database of what kinds of robocalls are being made and where they're going to here. You can block phone numbers you've identified as spam pretty easily on your cell phone, but it's very easy for spammers to get new phone numbers and keep trying.

Have you installed a call blocker filter on your cell phone? Call block filters will allow you to block specific phone numbers and enter the phone number into a shared database so everyone benefits when one phone number is identified as spam. When an identified number calls you, the call will go straight to voice mail. Here are a few:

Robocallers are certainly annoying and I wonder who would actually respond to such impersonal marketing especially when considering a loan!  Thank you for your post and the call block filters that you've shared.

Yes, I find it annoying and needless to say I answer the phone and then hang up as soon as I recognize it... there are so many that it is not worth my effort to block it every time...Endre

Last month the FCC fined a guy in Miami $120,000,000 (that's million) dollars for robocalls.  That's not enough; he should get 20 years in prison to go along with it.

Hi Wayne and Jean - I don't even answer the home phone since I mostly use my cell.  Mostly were robo call but I missed a doctor call because I didn't pick up.

We cancelled our house phone because it was only robo callers - everyone we wanted to talk to called our cells anyway!

I've signed up on the Do Not Call Registry and don't see any decrease in robocalls at all. I doubt those making these calls adhere to the protocolls set forth by the FCC.

Agreed - the Do Not Call Registry doesn't appear to have had any impact.

Thank you for your links for robo calls.  Ours are pretty much negligible, and when we do get one, we block them.  Our phone is answered by a real person who then routes them to one of us...the robo call is instantly eliminated.  A

I find these calls so annoying. I generally avoid all phone calls from 203 and 860 #'s since my cell is from CT and had to stop answering unknown callers from area codes outside of NYC metro area.  So, I generally answer 914, 212, 917, 347, 201, 516, 718, 845 and there's another NJ one...maybe 609.

For a while my cell used to pop up things like "possible spam" "probable scam" but it stopped.  Not sure how to get that back.

It's got to be a pretty lonely person to NOT hang up 3 seconds into a Robocall Wayne and Jean Marie Zuhl . I know that 90% of the Robocalls I receive involve someone who wants to help me be noticed on Google.

I have noticed that they are mirroring my phone number to make it look familiar. I let it go to voice mail and then block it. I still get a couple every day.

Yes! I suppose people are more likely to answer calls that resemble their own numbers because it might be someone local.

Wayne & Jean, I get many on my home phone, and only use it when I am on my cell, but need an answer for a client.  Have thought about removing it.  Comcast does have the option to add quite a few numbers to the blocked calls.

We removed our house phone. It only got robo calls and political calls. Why should I pay for them to contact me??

Please not: The number order has nothing to do with who's my favorite, I am going from the first page of followers and I am on page 73 and there approx 12 members per page.
