From MNDoT 3 year closure of the major ramp

Today's (May 18) closure of the ramp from northbound I-35W to westbound I-94

The ramp from northbound I-35W to westbound I-94 is scheduled to close today (May 18) at 10 p.m. The detour is westbound Hwy 62 to northbound Hwy 100 to eastbound Hwy 55 to Lyndale Ave.

The ramp will remain closed through fall 2021.

Why will this ramp will be closed for the remainder of the project?

This ramp is being fully reconstructed. Once it’s complete, motorists will no longer be merging on the right side of westbound I-94; instead they’ll merge on the left side and will have a dedicated lane through the Lowry Tunnel. This new traffic configuration will reduce congestion. The Lyndale Ave/Hennepin Ave. exit will be accessible from westbound I-94.

Before the reconstruction of the ramp, additional construction activities are needed in the I-35W/I-94 junction that need to happen and will be in full swing starting in mid-June. Highway lanes will be reduced and shifted at various times and construction of the new ramp piers would not allow the ramp to be opened.
