I See Dead People...on Mailing Lists

Yesterday, I was visiting with a friend.  As we chatted over coffee, he shuffled through a little stack of mail.  Picking out a shiny postcard, he hands it to me, "Here's another one", he said.

Not surprised to what I was looking at, (this is an ongoing joke), we both chuckled.

It was another postcard from a top real estate broker addressed to his father who passed away in 1982.  The house has since been in my friend's name.

The ironic part is, I used to work in management for the same company.  As a professional courtesy, I called the associate broker's team, alerted them and made the suggestion to update their lists.  The message was taken, but never acted on.  That was three years ago.

Although the simple solution is just add OR CURRENT RESIDENT, it may be perceived more professional if the mailing lists were more current.

Don't you agree?

(I am experimenting with videos from youtube.  Your patience is appreciated.)

Absolutely!  I recently made the mistake of mailing to an expired listing.  After doing the research and looking up the home on the town records I mailed to Mr & Mrs Smith.  Unfortunately Mr Smith had died 2 years ago in a much publisized acident and in my zeal to get the mailing out I did not put 2 and 2 together.  A friend of mine clued me in and I could have lite up a dark room I was so red.

It was nice of you to take the time out to let the realtor know, stupid of them not to follow up.

BTW - great title to the post

Thank you for commenting, Tom.  I am glad you liked the title. I guess I should have given credit to M. Night Shyamalan for the inspiration.

You've heard of ambulance chasers? I have a friend who actively solicits to addresses he finds in the Obituaries. He is a hearse chaser and he is good at it!  "John" has listed several properties where untimely deaths have occurred. Not exactly a niche for everyone, but he is doing very well.  (Now there's an interesting subject for AR)

Best wishes and continued success!  ---Rhonda
