Pastrami and Pale Ale at Selland's Market Cafe

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

My husband is not known for planning weekend activities, but he did suggest we go to Selland's Market Cafe yesterday. Selland's was celebrating Sacramento Beer Week by featuring a selection of craft pale ales, coupled with a house-made pastrami sandwich, dripping with sauce, pickles, sauerkraut. Sounded very low calorie, not. So he probably figured that the way to get me out of the house was to offer to walk there.

It's not that far. Maybe 6 blocks at maximum from our house in Land Park. But we've just done take-out from that location. Never actually walked up there to relax outside under an umbrella.

However, the location also let me stare at the new construction that out-of-area buyers are snapping up like hotcakes, 1,800 sq. ft. homes that face the freeway, selling in the low $600's. It makes me wonder how hard they will be to sell as a resale, just like some of the other new homes springing up in Land Park. They sell now because they're sparkly and new. Later? I dunno . . .

Good afternoon Elizabeth - Not exactly a low cal meal.  But interesting observation about new homes and resale.  We will see.

Nothing like a good pastrami sandwhich, Elizabeth... especially if it's lean and tender. The beer I can pass on! Interesting point about new construction resale. More than once I've told a client they shouldn't buy a particular new construction home for some reason.... that just because everyone else is grabbing them up doesn't mean they should. Most everything sells when it's shiny and new... but there's always resale to consider.

Hello Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents . Sounds like a nice outing. And also sounds like seeing things during your walk may lead to a different way to view your local market.  I agree - that new subdivision may be considered overpriced in a short while.

Grant Schneider One thing being in real estate has taught me over the years is when I spot new construction, try to picture it in 10 years. It generally loses its luster.

Nina Hollander The beer you can pass on? Sounds like a person who has not experimented enough with craft beers. Not every beer is a crummy Blue Pabst, LOL.

Hannah Williams The national average is 5 to 7 years. We've been in our home in Land Park for 16 years, the longest either of us has lived anywhere in our lives.

Lynnea Miller I think the fact that all of those buyer's agents were outside of our MLS tells the whole story.

Hi Elizabeth.... when I was 17 I tasted beer and have never had another sip since (that's more than 50 years). I don't drink, in general, except for the occasional glass of champagne.

Nina Hollander Psst, some craft beer tastes like champagne.

Elizabeth, sounds like a great lunch, and got a walk in.  You are right, shiny and new, easier to sell, down the road, not so much!

Yeah, it's easy to picture in my head the eventual chipped stucco, dirty carpets, dings and scratches in the hardwood, fingerprints and stains on the cabinets . . . a worn house.

I'm with you on trying to picture a development in the future - of late, very few look like they will be able to withstand the hands of time. Can't believe homes that size - and near a freeway - can sell in the $600,000's. Wow.

Elizabeth- when I drive through areas and see houses on busy streets or ones that back up to things that most would find questionable I wonder what they could have been thinking! While I'm not a huge sandwich eater, I do love pastrami once in a while.

I've not been to Selland's Market Cafe, Elizabeth.  I was also fascinated by your observation of new home construction and the prices associated with it.  I share some of your same wondering.
