Princeton NJ Twitter meet up

There has been a lot of talk in different social media circles if, how and why such networks could be of benefit to businesses. Some wonder if social media networks are giant water coolers where people, with nothing better to do, spend their time. I don't have a definitive answer as to the business usefulness of these networks except to say that it could be a way to meet people. Like with any other networking, what one makes of it depends on you. I prefer to get to know people, rather then "sell" at such events.

Participating in social networks is one way to get involved in the local community. Twitter is one such network (I am fsechzer, if you want to follow me). A while ago I wrote about the meet up I was organizing in Princeton NJ. This is a follow up post with a few pictures. it was very interesting to meet the people who prior to this meet up knew each other via 140 characters posts.  It is was surprising how much you get to know even from such short interactions.  Princeton NJ Real Estate -Twitter meeting

More details about the meeting and the people in the picture are here.

Twitter could be one way of getting to know and network with people in the Greater Princeton NJ community
. We all enjoyed it and plan to meet again in a few months. Everyone is welcome to come - living in Princeton is not a requirement:)

Please let me know at 609-553-4175 if you would like to join  Princeton Twitters for our next get together.

Twitter is an interesting idea.  I have (am trying it) but really I found that it was a lot of content and little value.  Maybe it matters who you are monitoring but I find Active Rain much more mentally stimulating and useful.

Twitter is fun - although I admit I find it too distracting when I'm trying to think.   That's why I'm not on it more than I am. I guess I'm the distractable type.  But it is great for networking.

That's a great analogy!

The key is not just following people like collecting friends on my space, it's about finding people worth following and following them for a reason. Twitter is a great tool or a great waste fo time depending on how you use it.

I don't have the time for twitter.  I think it would be a waste of time for me.

Do you need to be checking in all the time, or does a couple of times a day work?

Howard - the 140 characters may not be very intellectually stimulating, but you can definitely find very interesting people to follow. Then you read their blogs and get to know them better. It's quite different then the interaction on Active Rain. The advantages: quick, little pressure, less serious. In some ways it could be weird:feeling either stalkish or like talking yourself. When I joined Twitter that's what I thought and didn't participate for a long time. For some reason, it didn't seem that way, when I went back to it.

Ruthmarie - the cool thing about twitter is that no one cares when you are on it, or how long you are on it. You can kind of pick up at any moment. It's almost like barging in in the middle of a huge party and start talking to everyone. I am sure it's not for everyone, but I like hearing from you there:)

Frank -if you get to know me better, you will find out - I don't mince words:)

Team Quintana - I am doing Twitter when I can, because it's fun for me. I wouldn't put it ahead of a scheduled listing appointment or a house showing.

I like to meet different kind of people from different countries, different walks of life -Twitter is a very low stress way to do it. I wouldn't advocate it for "hard core" selling. Quite honestly, I have enough of it in other places:)

Russ Ravary - I understand your view.

Georgina - you can do Twitter any time. No one cares, when you start or how often you are there. Like in all other networks, you need to "connect", if that's your goal. Everyone is doing it differently and for different reasons -some just pitch their stuff, others listen to the conversations, and others just like to learn about interesting people, or things.

Katerina - Of course it's me, I haven't been AWOL that long, friend:) If you didn't recognize me, it's because I now look so much younger, right?:)

Faina, Yes you look younger, so I'll chime in. I have a great twitter story too, I'll be posting soon. I think this is awesome you organzed this get together.
