On May 10, 2008, Gasoline Alley - a Hot Rod and art shop in the city of El Segundo - held its 3rd annual Car and Art Show.
Like anywhere in the US, summer is anxiously awaited in California. And in addition to warmer weather, a good indicator showing that is has arrived is with the arrival of car shows.
I was planning on attending this car show, and was very much looking forward to enjoying it with my family. Unfortunately, our weekend got hijacked with other obligations and we were not able to attend.
But fret not! I have something even better to share with you all. My good friend and neighbor Shane O'Donnell - a professional photographer - visited this car show and took some amazing pictures that he has graciously allowed me to share here on my blog.
If you enjoy these pics, visit Shane's My Space website at http://www.myspace.com/seelikeshane, and stay tuned for his upcoming photo book on the rock-a-billy car scene.
So, enjoy!
Car shows can definitely be a family event, for those of all ages. Most car enthusiasts began attending car shows as wee ones with their parents.
Car owners are passionate about all of the aspects of their vehicle. Here is a great example of an exceptional paint job.
After going to your first car show, you will notice that it's not just about the cars - it's a culture. Many car owners, family members, and friends get into the "rock-a-billy" scene, dressing the part to fit with their period vehicles.
This fellow is painting pinstripes on this vehicle by hand, a very rare and sought after talent.
An excellent example of custome, hand painted pin striping.
The ladies get into the scene by dressing in rock-a-billy clothes as well.
