Remember, Safety First.....We have all been told that a time or two and Blogging is no different. There are posts about how to keep your blog protected from hackers but consider for a moment the hundreds of strangers able to track you on the web? Would you tell the creepy person walking quickly up behind you your personal information (your kids name, your street address, the hours you will be home alone) I highly doubt it. So here are a few ideas for safe blogging:

•-   PERSONAL INFORMATION: Don't give out too much personal information (this can be hard in all of our line of work, seeing as we are here to network with other professionals) But stating in a blog that you were born 8/2/1965 in Waterloo, Mississippi to Tom and Barbara Walters and I live by myself with my cat on a lonely street, Might be a little much.

•-    PHOTOS: What's in the background of your photos? Your house number? Your license plate? A picture of you child in their school shirt? A pictures is worth a thousand words right? What do your photos say?

•-    RESPONSES: Be aware of people that continue to respond to you that you do not know. We know that we all subscribe to strangers blogs all the time because they are great blogs. But read your responses and figure out if they are appropriate and if maybe the person is leaving you comments on every single blog you post.

•-    PERSONAL FEELINGS: Sometimes we post blogs about something or someone that triggers a "feeling" (good or bad) Consider the individuals that are going to be reading your post. Realize the reaction that your words may cause before you post.

•-    SOLVE IT QUICKLY: If you feel threatened or a little weirded out then do not engage in more confrontation with the individual. As we are told as children - Walk away and Tell Someone. If avoiding the confrontation does not work then report them to the proper people. No don't call your friend and tell them, unless your friend monitors the website you are on. Report the problem as soon as it becomes an issue.

So like our parents told us growing up and we tell our children now days, SAFETY FIRST.  Keep Blogging and enjoy it but do it smart and safe. I hope you all have a great day and good luck in all you do.

Dione, nice post, I have been mugged twice, I make sure I am aware all the time who is around me, being aware is the first step in being safe

Thanks for the reminder to watch the back. Yes well all know to be careful, but we often forget.

Dione, Some times its forgotten when you are building camaraderie's on line and we often slip and share maybe too much. It's very important to be as cautious as possible and yet allow the real you out to your readership. I think most connect with who we are and giving too much info can be the right ingredient to some wacko or stalker...always be aware and yet have fun too.

Unfortunately, it's a crazy world out there.  What a shame that we must always be guarded.

Wise words that we can all heed.  I hope your time here is well spent and you stay safe.

Thank you all for your comments. I think we should be careful but not overly cautious. In all of our professional careers we have to have our name and/face out there but on the internet we sometimes forget that the threat is just as great....Again thank you all for your comments.

Safety first for sure. Good post. Important not to give information away that might bring harm.
