Staying in contact with everyone is a full time job.  Heck I stopped writing posts for a couple of months and catching up has been so hard.

I suffer from the same problem that most loan originators and real estate agents suffer from and that is creating an effective system so we can wear mutiple hats.  We are the marketeers, the owners,  the accountants, the sales managers and lately the full time therapists.

Recently I had to make a decision to break my system.  I am the biggest fan of believing in cliches like "if it's not broken don't fix it".  I worked for a company many years ago who had a saying that went as follows:  "if its not broken break it and improve it".  Well I have just bought into that thinking when I decided to finding a better system to run my business.

I finally made a decision after 5 years to get one data system to manage all my information, loans, etc.  I just found it too tedious and difficult to continue down the path I was heading.  My biggest goal when this is all over is to do a better job of staying in contact with people.

5 Comments on Databases and Staying in Contact

If you're using Point for your loan originations you may be surprised that it has some capabilities to help you do that. I also know that it can interact with ACT databases so you can manage your data better. If neither of those are what you're looking for, I'd be interested in putting our heads together to create a freeware data management system together for you and others in your same boat. There would have to be a good amount of need from several different people, though, in order to justify taking on that task.

You are correct that this is something nearly all of us struggle with. I really like the "if its not broken break it and improve it". I think that should be my next step. Thanks for the post.

Some web sites also offer great tools and a great way to organize your clients. This beast must be maintained and fed. It is your future income you are dabbling with!

Dennis- I did end of getting a database system, my company Cherry Creek has one called Client Keeper.  The easiest way I can explain it is ACT on Steroids.  It fully integrates with Point, our relay system for registering and locking loans and even syncs with Outlook and many other applications.  The only thing I do not like about it is that it's propriotary.

Florence- I always believe that every business has ways for improvement.

Laura- I would agree, if I do not do something now, I am putting a lot of future business I could be working on in jeopardy.  I have been very busy but as I started analyising my business, I noticed how many opportunities are just not be taken advantage of.

I find the best way to manage your database is to keep as simple as possible and to use a basic and well known contact mangement system like: Outlook Sycn with yahoo With Blackberry and so on=)
