Your home is your castle, your own little paradise, your piece of the American dream. Lately, however, your little corner of the world has been feeling a bit cramped and you may find yourself eyeing a larger home. Is it time to pull up stakes and move on from your starter home?
OH, The Stuff
Are your closets packed so tightly with shoes and coats, you risk an avalanche every time you open the door? Does your home seem to be lacking the space to keep all your belongings. You may have even had to move some things off-site, spending money to rent storage space to keep that antique dresser your grandmother left you or your childhood bedroom set that you just can’t seem to part with!
Growing Household
If you've added to your household in recent years, you may have more people than bedrooms in your home. A two-bedroom home may have been a great idea when it was just you, but with additions to the household, you're starting to have turf wars over the spaces!
No Privacy
Oh, how you'd love to spend an hour on Sunday afternoon soaking in the tub but, before the warmth of the water can take you away, there's a banging on the door of the only bathroom in the house! A chorus of “I need the bathroom!” invades your quiet time. What about the man cave you dreamed of? Those visions of a big screen television were shattered because you need somewhere for the growing household to sleep.
No Flex Space
Remember the two-car garage that was once your workshop? Now, there’s a second car and all of your woodworking tools have been relegated to that storage unit you’re renting. You'd love to take up organic gardening but, the tiny yard barely has room for a grill, much-less two lawn chairs!
You'd love to host your out-of-town guests but, there isn’t even room for their luggage, much-less the guests!
Job Promotion
Kudos to you for buying your starter home and building equity over time. Now, thanks to changes in your career or promotions at work, you can afford a larger home that has plenty of room for your growing household. Putting the equity in your current home to work for your new, larger home purchase, makes perfect sense!
