This month, June 2018, I am trying something new. I will be publishing a new article every day. Each day I will embed a link to a great song that has had an impact on my life. I call it the Soundtrack of a Lifetime.
From the time I was a young man music was a very important part of my life. In my teenage years, I played the guitar but was never very good. So I spent most of my time listening to records. I spent countless hours in front of the record player singing along with my 45 rpm singles. Later as my tastes evolved I began to listen to long playing albums. Then as technology changed, I evolved through 8 track, cassette, and reel-to-reel tapes and ultimately to CDs. Today, digital streaming has supplanted all other forms of distribution.
Today the library of music available to me is nearly endless and streaming is what makes it possible. Considering that I have been listening to my favorite music for over 50 years it was hard to pick from the thousands of favorites. Since I only have 30 days I will choose a sampling of some favorites.
For my first post, I chose a song that takes us back to the early days of Rock and Roll. Yet it remains a timeless classic. I was actually a little too young to appreciate this song when it was released in March of 1957, but it didn't take me long to become a fan. The artist is Chuck Berry, a guy that revolutionized guitar playing and helped lay the foundation for old fashioned Rock and Roll. I cannot begin to tell you how many teenagers identified with this song. In those days everyone was dancing. It was all about fun then and is still all about fun today.
