Joseph Guilherme was born in Fall River, Massachusetts back in 1937 to Joseph and Maria. Graduating from Durfee High School, he continued his education at Harvard College graduating from there in 1958. Moving to Paris to futher his studies he graduated from L’Ecole Normale de Musique.
During the lean years you could find him playing a piano in the local bars around the Boston area before moving to New York City. There he met someone you may have heard about that forever changed his life. That someone was a man named Jim Henson. As they say the rest is history.
Joseph Guilherme Raposo is most famous for lyricist for a children’s television series called Sesame Street, which he wrote the theme song for. Some others you also may have heard of Bein Green, C Is For Cookie to name a few. He also was the musical supervisor and arranger for the original off-Broadway run of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Sadly, he died in 1989 from non-Hodgkin lymphoma just three days before his 52nd birthday. Until tomorrow I wonder how many of you will not be able to get the theme song from Sesame Street out of your head..
