Friday June 1 is National Doughnut Day-Hurry In For a Free Doughnut!

Friday June 1, 2018 is National Doughnut Day. The best way to celebrate this event in Santa Clara County is with a FREE doughnut from participating doughnut-makers.
Here’s a quick history of the doughnut. According to the Salvation Army's official website and Facebook page, National Doughnut Day was created in 1938 by the Salvation Army as a way to honor the women who served dougnuts to soldiers during World War I.
These hard-working volunteers, known as "doughnut lassies," first made the doughnuts by hand, then distributed them to servicemen and women.
While a few local, independent doughnut shops in your area may be participating, the most likely places to score of a free doughnut today in the Greater San Jose Area (Santa Clara County), is at Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts, along with some surprising ones, such as Papa John's and Edible.
Dunkin’ Donuts
Customers enjoy a free classic doughnut of their choice with the purchase of any beverage (except coolers). Choose between Boston Kreme, Glazed, Glazed Chocolate and Strawberry Frosted with Sprinkles.
Edible
Edible Arrangements launched a new line of Edible Donuts. These “Donuts” are really fresh apples dipped in chocolate and shaped into a circle with the hole in the middle, and they feature different topping like chocolate glaze, sprinkles, caramelized hazelnut crunch, coconut shavings and almonds. Swing by any Edible storefront to pick up a complimentary treat on Friday.
Krispy Kreme is offering a free donut from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on Friday at all participating stores. (Fun fact: Krispy Kreme was founded just one year earlier than National Doughnut Day, in 1937.)
In Santa Clara County, there are now two Krispy Kreme stores, the one in Mountain View and the one at The Plant, located at Curtner and Monterey Road in San Jose. Other nearby locations include Daly City and Union City. Even better, no purchase necessary!
Papa Johns
Purchase a pizza from this nationwide chain and receive an order of free doughnut holes for dessert. A new menu addition, these warm treats are coated in cinnamon sugar and filled with caramel crème.
This charitable organization will be partnering with Entenmann’s, to host a series of “Do Good Donut Parties,” where they will serve over 10,000 doughnuts to 8,500 veterans across America.
Walmart
All Walmart retailers nationwide are giving away complimentary whole glazed donuts to customers who enter their store on Friday.
Be sure to call ahead to verify participation before you embark on your journey for free doughtnut treats as sometimes locations may have changed or supplies have run out.
