With the price of gasoline being considerably higher than it was even a short time ago, and possibly going even higher, there are many suggestions being offered on how to save gas. This is well and good, but it assumes that people consciously want to save gas by the way they drive. I'm not sure that's a valid assumption.

I don't mean that people are out to waste it either. I just mean that I see little difference in the number of cars on the road, the amount of driving that is expected, and the driving patterns than when gas was $2 a gallon cheaper. My conclusion is that the price of gas has little to do with the way most people drive - not necessarily the amount of driving they do but the way they actually drive.

You know, I was thinking this the other day... it is amazing that we think it is going to affect us and then it doens't.  Well at least in the ways we think.  However, I am getting really tired of the 4.39 a gallon.

Kim, oh yes, very tired - especially since I remember gas at $.78 in north Georgia a few summers ago. But everyone still has jobs to go to and kids to take to school and ...

To be truthful, I do not think the rising gas price has done anything to change the amount I or my family drives.  I do think however that it makes me think twice about buying some things. The extra that I have to spend at the pump is less that I will spend somewhere else.

It has affected me a little. I decided to hang out around home for the weekend.  And I am slightly more calculated and where I am driving...is there errands that I can do on the way now instead of back tracking later and so on.

I almost want to laugh when someone is complaining about their crappy gas mileage and they drive it like they stole it... what are they expecting?

Linda, that's my point. I think there was more talk of cutting back when gas was about to hit $3 than now. Thanks for your comments, and I agree about the other expenditures.

Chuck, thanks for commenting. I will admit that I arrange my errands and appointments to be as efficient as possible but I tend to do that anyway.

Lane, totally agree. I really love the people who have to floor it to run the red light. :)

I know that I've changed my driving habits.  I make as many stops as I can in one trip so that I save gas.  I also drive around 55 mph. in order to save gas.  It's working...!  :)

Debi, thanks. I know that making as many stops on one trip saves time also because you don't have to come and go as much. I trust the 55 mph driving is on the freeway and other areas where that is allowed. :)

Debi, I was pretty sure that's what you meant, but just wanted to make sure. :)
