The FPEA Homeschool Convention is on its 21st year holding this amazing and fun convention. I am so thrilled to be here and even though I have homeschooled for 28 years; you just never know it all. As time goes on and with the Internet, there is always some new innovative way to teach your children.

FPEA Homeschool Convention

Homeschoolers are on the cutting edge of technology and all the new and exciting learning tools available. The best part is that you can the tools your children need even if each one of them learns differently.

There are over one hundred workshops and seminars to go to this weekend. We started on Thursday night with the opening of the exhibit hall which has over 1000 exhibitor booths. You will be overwhelmed with ideas and things to buy so I suggest you make a plan first before you come. Make a list of the curriculum you are going to need and don't forget to add the fun stuff in. You name it, they've got it here from Christian formal curriculum, Jewish based teachings to secular curriculum.

FPEA Homeschool Convention

Thousands of homeschoolers and their parents are here learning and networking. Each year there is a children's program which is called, 'Worldview' and you can enroll your kids from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is taught by teens and teaches the children how to respond as a Christian to all the different philosophies in the world. They are also learning conflict resolution which is critical when your faith is being attacked in the world.

FPEA Homeschool Convention

The Graduation ceremony for all the homeschool high school graduates is being held tonight. That is going to be very exciting. I have met so many young 16 year olds who are graduating and are already taking college courses either online or at their local universities and colleges.

FPEA Homeschool Convention

This is a very uplifting time in which parents can gather support and know they are not alone in educating their children. I also found a lot of dads who have the sole responsibility to do all the teaching in the home. I found some really cool science projects for my son who is all about hands on! We gathered up lots of art supplies and we decided to switch from Abecka math to 'Math You See.' I met one of the author's sons who invented Math You See and he is already getting his BA from college at the age of 18 just like one of my daughters is doing.

I am off to learn more so when I get back I will answer your comments and write more about what I learned this weekend. In the meantime enjoy the video I took with my flip video camera and with using the Active Rain video platform.

Scott- 5 of my kids are grown and we have the little 5 year old to homeschool now. One of my daughters is 19 and is graduating from Palm Beach Atlantic University this year with a Bachelor's Degree. She is VERY happy she never set foot in a high school and did not waste her time. She is majoring in psychology and is going on to get her Master Degree. Thanks for commenting.

Barbara- You are welcome. I do write about our homeschool activities and field trips on our blog. I even got a listing because of my homeschool posts!

Katerina, it seems like home schooling would be almost a full time job.  I've always been amazed at the people who do it!  You must be the master of time management.

Patricia- It is an ongoing thing in our home, school never ends, that is because he is learning all about real life, he can be in our office helping us with Real Estate at 5 1/2! It takes much less time than you might think. We get all the school stuff done in just 2 hours that it takes a school 7 hours to do! I also save so much time by not having to drive back and forth from schools and save time by not having to help with 2 hours of boring homework every night which is what my friends are doing that are not homeschooling! I would not trade it for anything!

Katerina - I've had clients who are home schooling their children, and part of what they're looking for in a home is a suitable place for a "classroom".

Katerina- I am sure you are having a great time this weekend in Orlando! I am also sure you will be coming back loaded with ideas to help your son learn even more and in less time too!

Best,

Scott

I applaud you!

My oldest daughter is alost 15 now, and just finishing up her first year in High School.  She has often complained that her religious views are not respected at school.  We have spent many hours talking about that subject, and I know they have talked about it at church too.  It is frustrating to me that MY tax payer dollars are trying to undermine what I have been teaching my children at home!!! I think it is wonderful that your whole group is addressing that issue in your area as well.

I look forward to hearing more.

We have always sent our kids to private Christian schools. That way we make sure they get an excellent education and learn more about Jesus.
