OK, call me partial, that's OK, I can handle it. That's because I hail from the (sometimes wet and wild) Great Pacific Northwest, where, maybe, everybody wishes they were at, or from.

All fun aside, here's the latest (I guess) information coming from one of our government's sources of information relating to housing that I just came across a bit ago ~ and I'm pleased to see that our little neck of the woods is mentioned quite a few times in that little list.

For all you fellow Washingtonians, I've gone ahead and grouped us in the first four sets of stats to kinda tell where we stand nationally. The balance of this post will be the sum total of all cities in the report.

Thanks for reading this far, and I hope this post helps any fellow number cruncher make it through the day.

Home prices by city
Price appreciation as of March 31, 2008 (by percentage)

according to the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight.

Of 292 metro areas, more than 192 recorded year-over-year increases in prices.

Findings of the report include:

The states with the greatest price appreciation between the first quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008 were Wyoming (6.3%), Utah (5.6%), Montana (4.9%), Texas (4.7%) and Alabama (4.5%).

The metro areas with the greatest price appreciation over the past year were Houma-Bayou, La. (11.2%), Grand Junction, Colo. (9.1%) and Wenatchee, Wash. (8.0%).

City rankings are listed by metropolitan areas. The OFHEO's House Price Index is published on a quarterly basis and tracks average house-price changes in repeat sales or refinancings of the same single-family properties. The index is based on analysis of data obtained from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from more than 30 million repeat transactions over the past 30 years
