Navigating the "one app" system of applying for schools all over the city makes it tough for new residents to know where their kids will end up. Jefferson Parish and Plaquemines Parish both offer the traditional system of assigning children to their neighborhood school. It's important to know that many New Orleans residents bite the bullet and send their kids to either private or parochial schools if they don't get into their school of choice.

Should you buy or rent?
We know plenty of service members that already own homes in other parts of the country, so buying may not make financial sense for them. It's important to have a frank discussion with your REALTOR about your future plans. Although rental rates are pretty high in the metro area, if you're only going to be here for 2 years, it may be tough to make a profit when you relocate again.
