Do Not Expect a Realtor to Find You a Safe Neighborhood

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

The top criteria every first-time home buyer in Sacramento wants is a good location. Because location is everything in real estate. Part of what defines an area as a good location is whether that neighborhood is crime-free and safe. Unfortunately, no neighborhood is really crime-free. Not when you consider all the crimes, especially domestic abuse.

Sex offenders are another statistic that you will find just about everywhere as well. It's astonishing to look at such websites, and as real estate agents, we are constantly warned not to look at them at all because it's better not to know. That way, you can't blurt out something you'll get sued for later, I suppose. You can read much more in my personal blog today at this link: Why Your Realtor Cannot Show Homes in a Safe Neighborhood.

Elizabeth, this question comes up ALL the time somewhere in the conversation when I show homes. For some reason, gated communities give the impression of "safe", whereas the other extreme is isolation which probably has problems of wildlife coming through (something I actually disclose) rather than the two legged kind.

Elizabeth- you're right. We all have different ideas about what is safe or any other descriptive words to describe a neighborhood. Buyers need to do their own research here.

Oh, the question that makes all agents cringe. Our stock response is that our idea of safe and theirs may be completely different, so they should check out potential neighborhoods at all times of day/night to be sure they feel comfortable with their choice.

Elizabeth, this is the hardest question from our relocation buyers, but need to explain this isn't something we can talk about.
