Ok I know most of you are tired of hearing about Twitter but I wanted to share a story of what happened to me last night.

We are at our lake house for the weekend. In the winter I go into vacation mode with Comcast. I called on Friday and told them to activate our TV and high speed internet.

When we arrived yesterday, the TV was fine but I couldn't log on to the internet. I was freaking out, the first report on Makeover2TakeOver assignment is due on Sunday and the Caulk/Wood Team...bonding for success still had work to do.

My husband was doing his best to get me connected. Finally, after 3 hours, I quit looking over his shoulder and went outside with the kids around the fire pit.

I got an email from Marc Blasi on my blackberry and I emailed him back and asked,

"Mark, can you log on to Twitter and nudge @comcastcares, give them my cell phone number and have them call me I can't log on to Comcast?" We've been trying for 3 hours and I'm going crazy.

A few minutes later, my cell phone rang and I looked down to an unknown number. I said to my kids, "now who would be calling me on a Friday night on a holiday weekend?"

I picked up the phone.

@comcastcares was on the other end.

They wanted to make sure my IP address was set up correctly and help me get connected.

As I was walking inside, and thanking him, just then my husband said, "I'm on."

Is that cool or what?

I thought that was a really cool use of Twitter and friends I have made on Active Rain !

Thank you Marc and  @comcastcares.

MISSY - I signed up for Twitter, but never did anything with it.  I really need to start getting active on there, because I think that it could be a good tool.  Glad things worked out for you.

Very cool!

Just a few minutes ago ActiveBob twittered about shots fired at the festival that he is at. So far nothing on the news. I posted about it here but man is Twitter fast!

Missy, very cool you got your problem solved with Twitter for Comcast. A lot of people don't know that with Blackberrys they can be set up for untethered data modems as well. Lots of cool tech stuff going on out there if you know how to hook it up.

Missy....   even though I have signed up, I have no idea what you just talked about.  What is nudge@comcastcares got to do with Tweeter.  Maybe you want to go into more detail for those of us that have no clue....  I am still learning how to turn my lap top on... okay, I got the hang of that in 1995.... but I still don't know half the things that you do....

@missycaulk Great story! The nice thing about so many of us from RE.net using new apps like Twitter is that we help each other discover new uses for it. I think we'll see more and more businesses using Twitter to connect with their customers; it's nice to be ahead of the curve on this!

that is great Missy, I am up on Marthas Vineyard and on Comcast mode.  As a backup and since you have a Blackbery did you know you can use your Blackberry for internet access?  I pay Verizon $15,00/month and I can tether the Blackberry to my computer and with a click I am on the internet. Works great for listing appointments as well if you want to go online and show a seller stuff.  Works like a charm.

Missy - interesting story. At our Princeton Twitter meet up, someone told a story of mentioning a problem with their phone on Twitter. Within seconds he received a call from Comcast. We were wondering how they could do it. Good luck with the contest.

Missy, my cable and internet provider is not on yet, but there are a few news outlets and one user who is there specifically for blast messages to users in our area. As long as it is working, I can see a lot of possibilities.

Jeff, a nudge it what it is called on Twitter. Same thing as a contact. I asked Marc to nudge ( contact ) @comcastcares to call me. Of course you have to be following them and them following you to make it work.

Mariam, I use twittberry on my BB, but it is just ok for quick updates. I didn't know you could use connect with a tether. I use Nextel, and tried the tether thing with my another phone I had before BB, but the connection was terrible. I needed something faster so we had high speed with comcast installed a few years ago and now it is just like I am home, except for the views of the lake.

Stephen, I now follow lots of news people from Ann Arbor, the Ann Arbor snooze, Wolverines, Tigers, Red Wings so I can keep updated. I was following some politcal candidates but it got to be too much.

Faina, thanks we've been working hard and I am loosing sleep.

Hi Missy - funny, I was just over at twitter tweeting (and trying to figure it all out) when I jumped over here to AR and read your post.  I'm really new on twitter.  How do you find people to follow?  I've just figured out how to have it check my address book.  When I signed up, all of a sudden a bunch of people were following me.  How did they know I was there?  Monika (above) was one of them :)

Chris, that is so cool, you should do a post on it. Hey Matt Rathbun.

Steve, if you want to start following people you can go to my profile and just click on the faces of people you know. Where is says see more, it gives you a better photo and tells about them.

Okay, that sounds great, but I still don't really understand twitter and what it is used for?  I have been to the site, but have not signed up.  All I ever see regarding twitter is "What I am doing now ______".  How does this message get to others, and how do you get messages from others?
