Friday Fun: A Perfect Wine To Pair With A Cheese Platter

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

In our previous post today, we shared our cheese platter adventure in Park City, Utah.  Our lovely cheese monger recommended a Riesling or Rosé wine.  In Utah liquor is only sold at the State Liquor Stores, which fortunately was well located across from The Market in Park City.

When Ron and I spotted the Moselland bottle we knew this was it.  It is a German wine and it gets its name from the Mosel River that flows through the region. It has a low alcohol content of 10%. Here are the tasting notes:

This elegant wine shows typical flavors of a Riesling form the Mosel region; green apple, pear, light citrus aroma, and a great bunch of minerals. Perfect balance of fruitiness and crispness.  Ideal with grilled fish, salads, light Thai-food, chicken and any kind of white-meat-dishes.

It paired perfectly with our assortment of cheeses.  Cheers!

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®,CRS, Thank you for your comment.  Our first trip to Europe we discovered this in Germany, and enjoyed it.  It was fun to see it in Utah, as we had not seen it for many years since.  A

As you know, Alexandra... I no longer drink wine, but when I did I always loved a nice Riesling. In North Carolina alcohol is still sold only in state stores. We can now purchase wine in supermarkets. I remember in the Emirates we actually had an official license (kind of like a driving license) to purchase alcoholic beverages at the state stores. Muslims were not issued such licenses.

Nina Hollander Utah only sells 3/2 beer in their supermarkets.  NC is ahead of them.  At at professional development course, we met a mother and son who live in Bahrain, and they told us how the Saudis come over the bridge to Bahrain dump their burkhas for stillettos and short dresses and go dancing and drinking.  The men also come and enjoy their liquor.  They called Bahrain the pressure release valve.  They did not need a license there.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel oh yes... I'm very familiar with this. Fly wit Saudi women and you'll see them in their designer finery until they hit Saudi air space at which point they start putting on the burkas! In the Emirates, you could drink publicly regardless of religion in hotels because the bars and restaurants were categorized as private clubs. There's always a way around it.

Nina Hollander there is a lot to be said, for the old adage where there is a will, there is a way!   Utah has progressed rapidly thanks to the Olympics, and we were amazed that they are getting more and more open to what is happening now.  We love walking around Temple Square before Xmas as part of our ski trip...they have a lavish light display 5 million lights at last count, and you can go in and listen to the Mormon Tabernacle practice...They are superb singers and all volunteers who compete for a place in the choir.  A

I've seen that light display at Christmas in Salt Lake City and it is magical. And who can argue with the beauty of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's music.

Having lived in Germany and been to most of the Wineries on the Rhein and the Mosel... not a fan of them since most are sweet... unless you can find a Dry Reisling is this a Dry one? I prefer the Franken Wein from north of Frankfurt and around the Wurzburg area:)Endre

Morning Alexandra.

Having lasagna at my sons home Sunday.  What wine would go with that?  We like semi-sweet ones.

I think it works well with turkey also. I am not given to the sweet wins that dominate from the region but this is a breath of fresh air,

James Dray red sauce lasagna would be good with a red wine like a Sangiovese.  If it is white lasagna with bechamel sauce I would buy a Pinot Grigio. A

Endre Barath, Jr. I agree with you, and neither one of us is fond of sweet wines.  This one had a hint of sweetness that worked well with the different cheeses.  It was definitely a wine for cheese.

We also happen to like Chateau d'Yquem which is definitely sweet with foie gras. On our list is a visit to the Chateau.  Wishing you a great weekend. A

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD I am definitely searching for that cheese.  We have a cheese store in town and I will call them, otherwise, the hunt is on.  Jane (Carp Wine) took a picture of my picture to see if she can locate the wine.  She is also looking for a couple more wines we encountered on the trip...A
