One of these days I'll go on a dream vacation to Hawaii

I've been wanting to go to Hawaii since I was a little kid.  Yes, ever since watching the Brady Bunch!

But, you see I live in New York, so for East Coasters, it takes a LONG time to fly to Hawaii.  (And, it's expensive...think of all that gas to get there). So East Coasters tend to go down south on the east side...you know Florida, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, The Cayman Islands, Aruba, Jamaica...well basically anywhere in the Caribbean or the East coast of Mexico.  We rarely go to Hawaii.

But, oh how I long to go there one day.  And, I will.  Someday.

Now, not only can the flight be expensive, but also, it seems that almost everything in Hawaii can be expensive...I've been told.  Well in planning ahead for my dream vacation, I stumbled on this awesome article 15 ways to save money on a trip to Hawaii.

I love these tips, and actually some of them will save you money on ANY trip.  So, while I'm dreaming and planning and saving for my dream vacation (which by the way needs to be at least 10 days...or maybe 2 weeks for me to put up with that plane ride and the time change), I'm filing these tips away.

I'm also super excited that I know a few Active Rainers in Hawaii.  So, when I'm ready, I'll be going there and organizing a meetup...points or no points.  I've been planning this in my head for a while.

If you have a trip coming up, whether it's to Hawaii or elsewhere, check out these tips.  In the meantime, let me know your favorite or most unusual vacation you've taken.

Thanks, Debbie! We often dreamed of Hawaii when living in New England and like so many others we went to the Caribbean every winter!

Now that we are in SoCal Hawaii is just 6 hours away and we have enjoyed multiple trips, with Maui coming up in a few months.

Thanks for the tips! And you are right, it IS expensive there!

Debbie,

We have been to the Hawaiian Islands many times.  Funny enough, I have no desire to go back again.  A

Most people either fall completely in love with Hawaii or they are "meh." My husband says it's OK but he is not as engrossed in the Hawaiian lifestyle as I. Natives on the Big Island say Pele either speaks to you or she doesn't, and one long-time resident told me Pele favors men, LOL.

I live here about 1/3 of the time and the other 2/3rds it is Sacramento. When I retire, it will be the other way around. Although I probably will have a second home somewhere else, other than Sacramento. You should come see for yourself, Debbie. I have a guest room.

We have not been to Hawaii since we are so close to the Carribean islands as you said! We would love to visit Fiji one day or the Saychelles island. All of those islands sounds so dreamy.
