My Entourage

By

It's Saturday night, and I'm at home reading The Missing Manual for Office 2004 for Mac.  I bought the book this week to learn more about Entourage, the contact management program that is part of the Office suite of programs.  And it occurred to me that, gee, it might be time to join the Get-A-Life Club.

Still, Entourage is s a pretty cool little program. Until I completed the Challenge for the week one's Makeover 2 Takeover contest, I had no idea it was even there. And I have to wonder what else is lurking on my little MacBook.

I have a few programs that I use a lot.  But what about the others?  There's Movie, which some friends really rave about and might (or might not) work for videos.  Then I have Photoshop Elements, which I haven't taken the time to learn - IPhoto is so easy to use and does most of what I need.  There is another that does business cards.  And there's a bunch of stuff that I don't even know is there.  If I want improve my French, I've got help from Berlitz that I rarely tap into.

It's a lot easier to get hooked on programs you don't use with a PC, because there is so much out there that works, or not.  With a Mac, there's not as much stuff, but it all works.  So it probably saves you money in the long run!

I tried to use my mom's school computer that is a mac and my god I thought I was going to pull my hair out. I couldn't even figure out how to move a picture from one file to another. I don't know how you do it!

I am absolutely loving my mac, but I haven't delved too much into Entourage.  One trial that I have that I will definitely be purchasing is the iWork program.  I have been making killer flyers with it, and so far like the presentations it makes better than Power Point.

You'll have to keep us up to date with what you learn about Entourage, and save me some time on the learning curve!

We had two MACs in the house at one point in time.

I couldn't make heads nor tails of them and got rid of them.

We use PCs now.

Oye...macs.....

Pat, if your Mac has GarageBand, you might be just one USB microphone away from giving up real estate.

I thought about using a MAC but I did not have the energy to fight the battle of fewer software options. I guess I felt it might be better of doing other things than fighting that battle.

Patricia, we have the camp that thinks Macs can be all connected and up in running with no assistance and the other camp that have always used PCs their whole life. Glad you are exploring Entourage. Keep us posted.

Todd, I have friends with Macs, and before I got one, I always thought they were too complicated!  NOT!

Jeannie, my young, techie mentor keeps finding new stuff for me to do with it.  It's part of the Office suite, and I'm starting to really love it.

Vanessa, it took some adjustment, but once you get the hang of it, it's so easy that even an MBA could use it!  Just kidding!

Joan?  is this my sister Joan?  Yes, I am a bit aprehensive about getting into Garage Band!

Terry, As a PC user, I had a whole lot of stuff that I'd buy and install, and it just didn't do it.  Pretty much everything on my Mac works, and I never felt it was a battle.  Well, yeah, maybe when I first got the thing.

And Gary, I'd been using a PC for a really long time before I made the switch.  There was a learning curve, but the no sweating the virus thing really makes up for it.  And it's so fast!

Patricia,

NOT this MBA soon 2 B MSIT!

We have a wireless network in our home;

The MACs were too much trouble to work with our Windows based server. We're a pair of techies and we simply decided that opportunity cost of time was too high to bother with the MACs.

In addition to the integration issue, there was the limited base of compatible software applications for the MACs.

I'll comment on the satire later.....

Patricia,

Before you get too far into 'office 2004 for Mac', you might want to check out the next update of office which my brother-in-law, an IT guy, tells me is either out or forthcoming!!! Thanks,   Fran
