The market was full of summer fruits and vegetables this morning...The first crop is here.  Avila's stand was our first stop.  I love figs, whereas Ron can take them or leave them.  Our friend was kind enough to give me two at no charge.

All varieties of zucchini were available.  We often grill them on the barbecue, or we make zucchini pancakes.

These beautiful watermelons caught our attention.

Donut shaped peaches are back.  They are beautiful!

Broccoli is still thriving!

Torpedo onions and carrots made a lovely combination...

These strawberries are delicious perfect for a strawberry pie!

And last but not least, there was life music, lively and fun!

Love, love, love those little watermelons, Alexandra. The strawberries look gorgeous (too bad I don't eat them!). We had some beauties here in Charlotte this weekend that I was ready to buy just because they looked so gorgeous.

I was just sitting here thinking. . .It's been a really long time since I have had a fig.  We use to have a fig tree when I was a kid.  I'll never forget telling my cousin in a letter about that tree.  He came to California one summer for a visit, and was shocked to find it didn't produce Fig Newtons.  He was 6.

I want them all and figs have been a late in life pleasure for me. Plums and peaches are sensual pleasures.

I like zuchinni bread but have never had the pancakes. Are they more like a potato pancake or a breakfast pancake?

Morning Alexandra.

In my limited memory bank, I can't recall ever having a fresh fig.   In fact, I can't recall ever seeing one at our local market

Love, love, love our Saturday trips to the Santa Barbara Farmers Market.  Your photos are always so wonderful - like being there in person with you. I have never had a fig...yep, perhaps I would have also looked for the fig cookie tree :)  Wishing you both a wonderful Sunday.

James Dray I am certain someone in your neck of the woods sells fresh figs.  They are amazing.  In Italy they are often served with a slice of prosciutto, (think sliced smoked ham).  A

Jane Chaulklin-Schott like you, I loved Myrl Jeffcoat story about Fig Newtons.  Although I have tasted the cookie, I prefer fresh figs.  Growing up, we had a fig tree in our yard, and I would perch on the tree and enjoy.  I planted a tree in Los Angeles, and I had to be faster than the birds to get any.  We finally put a net on all our fruit trees. LOL A

Debbie Reynolds I make them more like potato pancakes.  One of our friends is Gluten averse, so instead of flour I added gluten free cracker crumbs, and it tasted better than the flour I usually add.  So now, that is how we make them.  A

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD when I told Ron about your comment, he was reminded of breakfast at Harvest, and the beautiful capuccinos they make.  I am going to see if the coffee place downtown will make a beautiful one.  We would have loved having you along with us.  A
