As CEO of NAR I...
After researching the National Association of Realtors, I find it interesting that a trade organization with over 1.3 million registered members; that we don't have voting rights for those who lead our organization. As the CEO of NAR the first two things I would incorporate into our bylaws is the CEO is subject to election by the membership not committee. The committee that hires the search team to find candidates for CEO would instruct the team to bring the membership the top two candidates and then the membership would have their say on who gets elected.
Second, I also want term limits based on a four-year term where the CEO can't be reelected more than once. Chairman for life has never been promised or should it be.
Another point of Interest is what was done with the funds from the sale of realtor.com. This was one of the biggest assets NAR had and I believe it was never noted to the membership how those funds where to be spent. I guess I am looking at full transparency in my term has CEO.
Finally after reading several other articles about why people are leaving our trade organization. I believe I will appoint a blue ribbon commission to look into these factors and allegations. My mission is to retain good members in standing; not chase them away.
We are not a bottomless pocket for people who don't know the meaning of budget or asset management. I would act to fix this.
This is my 2nd entry in the Active Rain June contest.
