The trio of Barry, Maurice and Robin had their ups and downs even breaking up to do singles acts in the late 1960’s. Yet, they were one of the few bands that were able to achieve success in two different eras with different sounds. The latter of the two bringing the greatest notoriety.
Their soundtrack to the movie Saturday Night Fever catapulted them to lifelong fame. One interesting factoid about the musical score from the movie is that the film was shot using different music and the Bee Gees music was added post-production. John Travolta never actually danced to the Bee Gees music. At least not until after the movie was filmed.
The Bee Gees have sold more than 220 million records worldwide. Only The Beatles, Elvis, Garth Brooks and Michael Jackson have sold more records. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
