On June 25, 2018, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Census Bureau reported nationwide new single family home sales gained 6.7% to an annual rate of 689,000 homes in May of 2018 from 646,000 homes in April of 2018, but jumped 14.1% from in May of 2017 an annual rate of 604,000 homes. The median new home sold value was $313,400, while the average sales price was $368,500 in May of 2018, and there were estimated 299,000 new houses for sale and 5.2 months supplies of available inventory at the end of May of 2018.
Regionally, new homes sales in the West fell 8.7% in May of 2018 from April of 2018, but up 18.9% from May of 2017.
In the South new homes sales rose 17.9% in May of 2018 from April of 2018, and higher 19.2% from May of 2017.
In the Northeast new homes sales down 10.0% in May of 2018 from April of 2018, and lower 16.3% from May of 2017.
In the Midwest new homes sales unchanged 0.0% in May of 2018 from April of 2018, but increased 40.3% from May of 2017.
