The Charlottesville Albemarle Kennel Club is holding two back to back all breed dog shows on Saturday May 31 and Sunday June 1 at the Foxfield Race Course on Garth road. Over 1000 dogs will be entered in the show representing 172 breeds. Judging will begin at 9:00 and continue throughout the day .
The show will begin with classes for each breed. Next the best of breed winners will go on to compete in their respective groups. Finally the winners of each of the seven groups (sporting, working , hound, nonsporting, toy, terrier, herding) will compete for best in show.
This is the perfect time to learn about the various breeds of dogs and see them up close. The public can meet owners and handlers, but it is good to remember to wait to talk to an exhibitor until they have finished showing. There will not be any dogs or puppies for sale at the show, but it is a good time to get information on the breeds and get names of breeders to contact in the future.
Admission is $5 per car. Please leave your pets at home as no unentered dogs are allowed on the show grounds. No entries are accepted the day of the show. There will also be numerous vendors selling dog and pet supplies, and food will be for sale for humans as well.
The dog show could bring as much as $350,000 into our local ecconomy. All of these dogs will be coming with owners and handlers,
many of whom will be staying in local hotels and eating at area restaurants.
This is a wonderful way to spend a day with your family. The judging schedule is posted on the Charlottesville Albemarle Kennel Club website.

Hey Pam,
I use to go to dog shows quite often back in the 1990. They were always enjoyable and fun to see all the different breeds of dog. You just had to keep your eyes on the ground so as not to step in/on a landmine.
