Samuel Breese was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts back in 1791, to Jedidiah and Elizabeth. He attended Phillips Academy in Andover before moving on to Yale College where he studied religion, philosophy and mathematics, graduating in 1810 with honors.
To support himself he was an accomplished painter. In 1811, he traveled to England to learn more about his art. There he learned a great detail as he practiced life drawings absorbing anatomical demands made from him. From 1815-1825 he sought to capture the essence of America’s culture and life. From 1830-1832 he traveled again back to Europe where he honed his skills.
In his spare time, he also worked on something that he received a patent on in 1847. He died in New York City on April 2, 1872. His estate was valued at 500,000.00 which is about 10.2 million in today’s money.
While you may not know Samuel Breese, surely you know him by his full name of Samuel Finley Breese Morse. That’s right Samuel Morse, famous for the Morse Code. If you can find one of his original paintings I can assure you, you will be able to retire. Until tomorrow I wish for you a lot smiles, with an outright laugh or two
