Peanut Butter 'N' July In Charlotte/Mecklenburg
For the seventh straight year, it's Peanut Butter 'N' July time in Charlotte, North Carolina and throughout Mecklenburg County. We've all heard about Christmas in July. And who hasn't heard of Peanut Butter & Jelly? But if you're wondering what the Charlotte metro area's Peanut Butter 'N' July is all about ... here's the scoop:
WBT 1110 Talk Radio and Harris Teeter Grocery Stores in Mecklenburg County team up annually to help benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. 2018 is the seventh consecutive year for this drive for contributions of peanut butter to help children in the Charlotte area from going hungry. Did you know that because peanut butter is protein-rich, offers more than 30 essential vitamins and nutrients and has a long shelf life, it's one of the most requested and most valuable commodities in a food bank?
Because Charlotte is such an affluent city overall, it's easy to forget that we have children who suffer from hunger here, as well. An astonishing 188,000 children in our region are at risk of hunger every day, And because there are no school lunches provided in the summer months, many more children go hungry during these months in the Charlotte area than most of us realize.
Where/How To Donate Peanut Butter In Charlotte In July
Through July 31st, you'll find donation bins at Harris Teeter store entrances in Mecklenburg County where you can donate jars of peanut butter. It's so easy and such a "small" donation in terms of monetary outlay. Why not make a point of buying a jar or two or even three of peanute butter from your local Harris Teeter store and putting them in one of the bins at the stores' entrances? No child should go hungry and this is one easy way to make sure fewer children in Charlotte do so.
More than 4,800 pounds of peanut butter have been donated in prior years, representing some 5,000 jars. I've already dropped off my two dozen jars at my local Harris Teeter store, with more to come... I make a point to pick up a couple of jars at each grocery shopping trip throughout July and putting them in the bins on my way out. So easy...
When you think about it, it's so inexpensive (you can buy Harris Teeter brand peanut butter at $1.99/jar) and so simple to support this food drive and help hungry Charlotte kids... so please donate generously this year to Peanut Butter 'N' July.
