Everyone loves lilies. The most common garden variety are Asiatic Lilies. They come in various colors and add beauty to any landscape.
This beauty is so delicate and the edges of the petals are ruffled.
Lilies are planted from bulbs and are easy to grow and care for.
They make a great addition to gardens, flower beds and even edging. They come in striking colors, that is what I like most about them. Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Most lilies like acidic or neutral soil but some varieties prefer alkaline or lime tolerant soils.
This peach colored one has a hot pink circle surrounding a gold center. Note the six petals are layered with three petals on top and three petals underneath.
The edges of the petals are also ruffled.
All lilies have six petals. They grow on long stalks or on a crown depending on the type of lily you have. They love the sunshine and need six to eight hours daily. They do like colder temperatures in the winter. They grow in most planting zones.
As you can see from my photos, lilies come in a big variety of colors and designs. Planting them is fun and watching them bloom in early Summer until late Fall is exciting. Large showy blooms add a lot to flower arrangements as well.
So, if you are wondering what to plant to make your yard stand out, try planting lilies. Easy to care for and always a delight. Lilies are a great perennial for every garden.
