One of my favorite neighborhoods in Honolulu is Ala Moana-Kakaako, which is sandwiched between romantic Waikiki and the island's financial district, Honolulu Downtown. The secret is out that within the next 15 to 20 years, Kakaako will be transformed from its once industrial warehouse character to that of a thriving walk-about people's choice for living. (On the drawing board are pedestrian walkways, retail and mixed use complexes, the mass transit/rail system, and beautiful new buildings.) While some neighborhoods around the island are pegged for an approximately 16% (sixteen percent) drop in value, many fellow colleagues see Kakaako as "the place to be and live". The within-walking distance retail, eateries, beach or sporting amenities. as well as medical, museums, and employment offices make this place a "ten" (from a scale of 1-10 with ten being the highest rating). The recent construction of new condominium complexes such as the Moana Pacific and adjacent Honolulu Design Center, Koolani, Hokua at 1288 Ala Moana Boulevard, and 909 Kapiolani as well as ongoing construction of Moana Vista and the Whole Foods complex make this neighborhood an unbeatable location for investors, second home residents, and locals who want to be in a happenning environment.
What neighborhood in your city is undergoing exciting transformation?
