Hiking Log - 2017 Doodles

This is part ten of excerpts from the trail log which was located on a New York portion of the Appalachian trail. For the post which explains this series, click here.  To those who have been reading this series on a regular basis, I again am guilty of a big lag between posts, but I will get better! There is still a lot to share from the 2016 and 2017 Trail logs.

Following is my selection of this week's thoughts of multiple hikers.

Multiple Dates in 2017

Doodles are absent minded scribbles, usually done while thinking of something else. The above pictures were taken from various pages of the 2017 Hiking Log. For the most part, they were accompanying text of some sort. Typically, the picture was next to the hiker's trail name, but sometimes it was part of a longer post. But I didn't see any links between the text and the doodles. In other words, none of the pictures were explained, which means we are on our own to interpret them.

So what can be derived from studying the above doodles, left by hikers walking both north and south, by young and old, and by experienced and newbie hikers?

My only thought is this -- Hikers may not be great artists.

Haha.

Hi Kat- They're pretty interesting!  If I lived closer to the Trail I would want to be a Trail Angel!

Hi Kat Palmiotti - I love the variety of doodles! It takes a special person to hike the Appalachian Trails; then leave their doodles behind, just like hieroglyphics left by ancient people here who walked on earth.

Kathy Streib - This isn't the "angel" trail but a different one. We do a fair amount of hiking!

I will have to catch up with your series, Kat. Those doodles are interesting. I had no idea that hikers left their comments and drawings in a trail log. What a great tradition!

Rose King - Yes, we left a trail log on a section of the Appalachian Trail near our home (well, it's about an hour hike in to where the trail log is). Hikers have left some interesting comments!

Endre Barath, Jr. - Haha, I'm sure your ankles and knees are not related to the hiking blog unless thinking about hiking hurts!

Good morning, Kat... I do think I'd probably come to the same conclusion that hikers are not great artists!

Oh, so interesting what you are finding in this hiking log, Kat!

The first drawing made me think the meaning behind it is this -  The hike was exhausting but, there's still love in my heart!

How interesting and having the doodles make it much more personal and like their own logo/name. I am enjoying reading your series.

Nina Hollander - I wonder if there's a link. I hike, I doodle but definitely am not an artist!

Debe Maxwell, CRS - That's a good guess about the first drawing and you might be right!
