I have spent that last year or so trying to create more balance in my life. After going through two years where we were faced major hurricanes and the threat of losing everything, you start to realize what is really important. I realized that I was a stressed out wreck. I snapped into action to prepare our home, and get ready for these natural disasters, but you realize what is truly important in life.
When you are faced with the decision of having to evacuate your home and you must select only those items that are truly the most important, everything takes on a new perspective.
Since those experiences, I have made a conscience effort to get more organized, and pare down the amount of stuff we have. I have made it a priority to create more balance in my life. I have stopped over scheduling. I have stopped over committing. I have learned to say no.
I am not totally there yet, but making progress. I am much more conscience of where things are, and if we ever need to evacuate, what are the essential items that need to go, and what stays.
We were very lucky. We did not have any damage to our home or property. Downed trees and power lines, and flooding all around us, but we were truly blessed. Many of our friends and family suffered major damage to their homes, but homes can be rebuilt... lives can't.
Finding balance in your life is essential to creating a sense of harmony and peace. When you find it, protect it and slow down a little more to enjoy life.
