What happened to our favorite vibes?  What happened to everybody?  Who is replacing the greatest music of our time?  Why has it been superseded?  What the HEY is going on??

Have you noticed in many restaurants lately if the music is not from 1958 to 1982-92 it is completely immemorable??   Music has gotten worse, much worse.  Especially Rock.  Well, rock music doesn't exist anymore except maybe on the oldies radio stations.  Totally unacceptable.

I started thinking of awards the other day (see Blog on this) and realized I hadn't mentioned music awards.

OMG

The stuff that is winning is atrocious.  Unless you like either: Repetitive Bass/Synth Disco Dance, Alternative Going Nowhere Drone, or Insulting Rap.  Yeah, there is some in between that is bearable, but I do not have any favorites. (Sorry, sorry: there is still Country music!)

The younger generation is listening to low level talent through low quality digital playback!

No guitar heroes, no one can even emulate some of this stuff!

I will occasionally take note when someone is inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame but do not watch any of the stuff that is garnering awards now or from the last 15-20 years.  Kids are not inspired to write or play music any more!  And the ones that are have NO clue what happened just three years earlier for cryin' out loud!

(Remember when we could hum a James Bond theme?  Try doing that for the last 4-5 movies.)

In fact, I stopped buying CDs around 90 or so.  Ha.

I endured the disco craze and a bit of Phil Collins, Sting, etc. but when Heavy Metal, Grunge, and whatever else was going on came up I didn't care.  No, I don't like Pearl Jam either but a few of their hits were toe-tapping.  And I hate that guy with the falsetto voice.

Why, you may ask, and say: "John, gee you are a fussbudget.  Get a life and get into the current groove!"

In the early 80s I was also struggling to make a living at the time!  My heroes were dead or dying off.  I had sold my guitar and amplifier when I had bills to pay and little or no income.  HA.  True confessions!

Well, I wanted to hit big as an architect.  I thought the music scene was extremely risky.  I have found out recently how bad 'talent' is taken advantage of and left to die off.  Did you know Doug Ingle lives in a trailer in northern California??

Yeah, a few of you may google that!

What happened to THE sound of the mid to late 60s into the mid-70s at least?

Where are today's music genius groups of the likes of: The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Ten Years After, Moody Blues, The Who, etc.??

There is NO such talent.  Very sad and so absent of anything listenable I just put on Pandora and kick back.

I am too lazy to attempt to work my CD player and other gear. ha!

++++++++++

Well, anyway, I just heard a band that is young and trying to make it with the rock sounds of the mid to late 70s!

It is the ONLY one I know of...  See what you think of Greta Van Fleet and who they remind you of?

Followup: If you missed this carpool karaoke video of Paul McCartney, you HAVE to see it.

Ok, last bit of nonsense on this very serious blog. With some high school friends in Nashville, my brother singing here.

and I promise I will never blog this drivel again!!

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

Well, I disagree. Although, I will say this sounded very much like me in the early 1990s. I grew up with 60's music. But in 1990, that's about the decade when I realized there is still good music. It's just not top 40, for the most part. It evolves. You evolve.

Else you turn into: you kids get offa my lawn.

Have you listened to the CD American Teen by this kid Khalid? I also just bought a new Florence and the Machine, High as Hope. There are a lot of good indie rock artists.

Elizabeth, there are a few interesting bands out there.  Unfortunately, they cannot come close to what many of the great groups of the 60s and 70s produced. ha.  Yes, I have listened to Florence and will check out American Teen.  Thanks

There is good music these days but I agree, not rock except for a few like The Foo Fighters. The rest are on XM Radio.

I am a product of 50, 60, 70s, music.  I loved Elvis, The Beach Boys, The Beattles, etc.  I can't warm up to rap, especially gangsta rap.  I suspect it's a generational thing!
