Charlotte North Carolina Demographics & Economic Profile

Charlotte North CarolinaU.S. Census Bureau data reveals that New York is the No. 1 source of newcomers to the Charlotte region from outside the Carolinas. An estimated 13,000 (out of our 80,000 transplants to Charlotte) move here from New York annually with New York City, Long Island and areas in Upstate New York contributing the largest concentration of transplants. Most have specific economic pressures and jobs seem to be the biggest lure for those moving to Charlotte.

Why ARE so many people relocating to the Charlotte region?

  • Charlotte’s economy
  • Our ability to generate jobs; in fact over 80,000 new jobs were created in Mecklenburg County between 2000 and 2005
  • Our mild climate with a true 4-season year
