Texas' gross domestic product growth got off to a good start this year.

The Lone Star State's real GDP grew by about 2.9 percent in the first quarter of 2018 from the last quarter of 2017, according to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. That was the sixth-largest increase in the country behind Washington, Utah, South Dakota, Colorado and Wyoming.

With about $1.8 trillion in gross domestic product, Texas accounted for almost 9 percent of the nation’s economy for the first three months of the year.
