While flipping through channels between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m., I noticed different channels all with the same type of show called "Make $$ in Real Estate Locally." This post reflects a continuous interest in the media, different channels, same message, promoting consumer interest in making money in real estate using stars on T.V. to capture a late night audience by using fast talkers who are marketing themselves as experts while talking about how easy it is to become rich if you follow their program. First and foremost, I'm not an advocate for this type of selling real estate to the consumers. Secondly, who are these people on T.V. - con artists? Third, I question whether or not there are starving late night stars who got rich by investing in real estate while achieving stardom as an actor? Also, are these people on T.V. licensed to sell? Nonetheless, TV media continues to lure people into the business of making money in real estate and that is something that does promote local and international interest.
"If people cannot decide whether they are in the business of
reporting news or manufacturing propaganda, it is all
the more important that the public understand that difference,
and choose their news sources accordingly."
--- Thomas Sowell, American Economist, (1930-Present)
Another thing I noticed, was the number of times a spokesperson for "making money in real estate locally," placed their hands on their heart. Trust is to be earned, not used to induce. Why are there so many channels on T.V. trying to retain a strong cultural identity or express their passion for investing in real estate? With triple digit temperatures and high humidity, many people can't sleep. I get that. However, I have to wonder, is the media taking advantage of the most vulnerable to connect with people staying up late because they don't have a day time job, laid off from an employer, recently divorced, can't get work, or couldn't sleep because financially, they are just financialy stressed?
While engaging and fascinating, my concern is there is a powerful force coming through the entertainment world, T.V. Media, and other forms of media spreading propaganda like wildfires. And the worst part about it is, they are really putting on a show.
