container sign

There are many containers which a home stager must use in order to provide excellent house staging consultations and services.

Some we find important to us are:

Business End

Plastic Totes

File Cabinets

Brief Case

Tool Box

Waste Basket

Utility Trailer

Business-Card File

Paper Clip Holder

Desk Drawers

Staging End

Vases

Baskets

Plate Holders

Soap Dispensers

Decorative Bowls

Hat Boxes

Pitchers

Plant Pots

Bags

What we recently added to our plethora of containers is a leather covered, lidded file box which contains our marketing materials. This box remains in the automobile to be used at the drop of a hat.

Here is the back story. While fueling my car the other day I was approached by a gentleman who had seen the signage on the back window. He asked if I was the home stager. With a smile I admitted he had found me out. He asked for information. Still with a smile I handed him what I had – a business card. We talked briefly and he was on his way.

I slapped my forehead (nothing to do with any vegetable drink) and vowed never to be caught short of marketing material again.

The above mentioned box now contains these files:

About Yvonne – tri-fold flyers with biographical information about (well duh!) me.

C Benefits – single page brochures with information about how our clients will be benefited by having their homes staged.

C Choose – single page brochures containing facts concerning what clients need to know about choosing a particular home stager.

C Information – tri-folds which explain “Home Staging for Today’s Home Seller.”

Guarantee – two sided pages which spell out our guarantees and code of ethics to home sellers and real estate agents.

R Choose – single page brochures giving information to real estate agents about how to choose a home stager to recommend to their clients.

R Information – tri-fold flyers designed to give real estate agents what they need to know about offering added value for their clients by telling them how to get in touch with a professional home stager.

Several REALTOR® packets which contain fact sheets about how to introduce the concept of home staging to their clients, guarantees page, added value tri-folds, benefits flyers and a business card contained in dual-pocket folders with business card slots.

So there, you have the whole story. I just couldn’t contain myself.

Cute, but a good reminder to all of us, even real estate agents, that we should be ready, with handouts, to respond to inquiries and leads.

You are so right Hope! Although I was never a boy scout; I sure do like their motto. And, from now on I'm prepared. Thanks for the reading and commenting!

Hello Yvonne, Linda uses a small plastic tote that she keeps in the back of the vehicle all of the time.  It has brochures, business cards, presentation packets, a tape measure, color decks, pens, papers, promotional items, and a whole host of other stuff.  She discovered the need to be a boy scout much the same way you did...

Yvonne ~ Great suggestions here.  I'm curious, what is covered in your "guarantees?"  I've not heard of a guarantee in staging so I'm wondering what it contains and if it helps you get more business ... thanks for sharing your ideas with us.

Thanks for the slap on my forehead!  I just recently purchased "car signage" and never thought I should keep flyer's, info, etc. with me.  DUH!  Thanks I needed that!  :)

I, too, slapped my forehead this week staging a vacant -- a Realtor walked in on me with a client -- both were so impressed they asked for my card (I was totally sweaty, stinky etc.) The realtor wanted it for her listings, the home buyer was interested in it for her own home!  I had stuff strung out everywhere, so I had to take down their info 'cause mine was no where to be found at the moment!

Great post containing great info!

Yvonne ~ Thanks for the reminder.  I have all the information, I guess I should put it in the car!

Yvonne,

Don't you wish the auto manufacturers would come up with a true office on wheels for stagers and Realtors?

A little filing cabinet, wi-fi, a fax/copier, a little fridge, microwave and a tray table for lunch: all built in with a place for your purse.

You've got a good start on it though with your wicker filing box.

Oh Gary you have put the grin on my face again. Yes, being prepared does help us to . . . well, be prepared! I carry some of the same things you mentioned about Linda's container in my briefcase. I just needed this box to stand alone. My granddaughter loves to feel the leather so it is nice for her too. :)

Hey Maureen! When Lori Kim Polk first suggested to me that I should add some type of guarantee to my marketing material, I too wondered how that could be done. If you look at the link you will see the guarantees spelled out. LKP and some others made suggestions to me concerning the type of things I could gurantee. The Code of Ethics also describes some things I can NOT guarantee. Thanks for stopping in!

Hey Janice! Hope the slap was in time and not too hard. :) It is cool that we can learn from one another here in the rain and since you have helped me so much I'm glad to return the favor. Thanks also for commenting!

Good day Miss Karen! We have probably all found ourselves wishing we had been a bit more organized or a bit less stinky when someone has asked for all our business information. No more head slapping! Your comment contains so much fun. Thanks!

Yes, yes, yes Susan! I love your idea. We need that car! My family and I talked a bit back about the need for a built in ice chest in vehicles and soon after saw an advertisement for just that very thing. Perhaps more of us need to encourage the auto industry to accomodate us. It can't hurt. :) Thanks for your fun comment!

Cheryl, Send me an email, I'll reply and I will be able to attach some of the stuff I use so you can see for yourself. Don't worry if you don't hear from me right away. This is a very busy week and I only hope to have a few minutes to breath by Sunday. :)
