Feng Shui Tip: Can Naming Your Home Boost Positive Energy?

By
Home Stager with Feng Shui Manhattan Long Island #888

This is a pretty interesting question to unravel because, in the science of Quantum Mechanics, EVERYTHING is made of energy, including; emotions, thoughts, and WORDS.

Quickly referring to a branch of psychology called, Gestalt Psychology, studies suggested that words convey symbolic ideas beyond their meaning.

Japanese researcher, Dr. Emoto said, "the human consciousness has an effect on the molecular structure of water." Which in short means, if you choose to think and speak positively or think and speak negatively, this could affect your physiological well-being.

So, can naming your home boost positive energy? From a Feng Shui perspective, backed with various scientific research, the answer is, YES! When you choose to name your home, you establish a personal bond with your space. You’re more likely to have more love, appreciation, and compassion for your home. It's less likely you'll cut corners when doing repairs, cleaning, and general upkeep for your home.

I refer to my home as "Sacred Space." The intention behind that name is to provide me with a foundation of growth, security, patience, love, and much more. Choosing a name for your home that you truly resonate with, is VERY IMPORTANT. Please take your time researching and connecting to a word or combination of words that speak to the energy you envision cultivating within your home.

Remember, the energy of your home is always transforming because it's responding to your personal energy levels, thoughts, emotions, and events that unfold over time. When things feel, "heavy" or "off," I'll speak to the spirit and soul of my home through the practice of Reiki. I'll ask, "Sacred Space, what do you need within this current moment of time in order to regain harmony, which helps me to be in harmony, and maintain that positive frequency.”

Anyone could do this. All it requires is an open heart and mind. I invite you to adopt a meditation practice to enhance your connection of communication. And remember, you can also speak to the land your home is built upon.

Important: Only due to this energetic exercise within your own home.

Thanks, Laura.   I have named my cars in the past, but never my home.  I will try to pick a good name for it.

Hey Gabe, I name my cars as well. Typically, they are referred to as "Chi car." The last car I had, lasted for 18 years. Not to shabby.

Interesting concept.  I haven't named "my house" but I have named my spaces so maybe that counts.  And not only in my home, but also my office.  And like Gabe I've named many cars.  About 7 years is the longest I keep a car though.

Good morning Laura,
I have always thought of my home as a safe place, but didn't think to give it a corresponding name.  I will put some thought into it (:  Thank you for the suggestion!

I know pleasant names do have a power and bring good thoughts to mine. I have named many streets and want them to sound like a place someone would want to come home to.

Hi Laura- I remember studying Gestalt psychology in grad school. I love your thoughts. While I've never named my home, I did name my car GPS for some reason.

Good morning Laura Cerrano ,

I'm so glad that Kathy Streib featured your post in her "AH-Ha" moments for the week as I missed it. I've always named my cars but naming our home I hadn't thought of but I like the idea!!

Hmm, I never thought of naming my house. I can tell this would take some serious thought, and I shouldn't just slap a name on it, like Rocky or Junior.

Yes, actually we do have a name for our home space, Our Tree House.  We are surrounded by large evergreens on one side and it feels as if living in a forest home.  Our main deck is near the branches of the tall trees and it's very relaxing and grounding space. D

How appropriate to call your sanctuary "Sacred House". All our homes should be special and highly valued to us as it is a retreat from the outside world. I'm not sure I've ever named my home but if I did, it would be something special as I do love where I live.

My last two homes were on streets that were female first names. We referred to the homes by those names.  Regina Rd and Alice Ln. We lovingly referred to them as Gina and Alice. Does that count?

I've never thought about naming our houses, but I see homes named now and then. Interestingly my sister named our beach house on Cape Cod Bay "Heavenly Bay." It fit perfectly!!

I rarely see houses named, except in Hawaii, Carmel, or other vacation spots. I like the idea though, and will think of one for our little urban condo. "Sky nest" comes to mind immediately, but I'll give it more time.
