Have you ever been offended by the owner?

Couple days ago, when I contacted one owner from Florida who was planning to move to Chicago area and offered him my REALTOR services, he used all bad words that I did not even know exist in English language. I was shocked. Usually when I would contact owners in other states who plan to move they would thank me for offering them my help. Sometimes when I would contact expired listing they would put all the blame on me because their house did not sell (like: why didn't you come before, when my house was listed, and brought the client, not now).

Fortunately, not all owners are like that. With some I become not REALTOR, but friend for life.

How do you deal with difficult owners?

You will encounter these people and a lot of times they are seeing you as a bottom feeder.  You need to offer value in the first sentence - more so than everyone else who is calling.

He's an idiot! Forget him. Unfortunately, in our business we do run across a few like him. Some agents can be like that too. Good thing is that you can pick the clients or agents you want to work with. If they act like that after they are your client I would cut them loose. Who needs that attitude all the way to a closing. (They could even scar you for life! lol)

Natasa,

It can be difficult sometimes.  After I get over being upset, IT is upsetting to have someone talk to you like that for no good reason.  Now I am not saying that I am so upset that I am not able to do anythng, but its still a drag and a drain on my energy.  This can take 10 seconds or (usually) less,  depending on the senerio.  Then I usually think, 1 or 2 things, "THEY MUST BE HAVING A REALLY BAD DAY" OR "THANK GOD, I AM NOT THEM!  They either have a lot of problems or are looking for alot of problems."   Sometimes people need the "benefit of the doubt", usually they would not talk like that or act like that, they were just having a really bad day.  We all have had bad days and said something in a way or acted in a way that was not really in accordance with our normal actions.  I
know that sometimes that it is hard to have stuff just "roll off your back", however, this is one of those business, that you need to develop sort of thick skin.  You must be able to take rejection and not let it upset you.  So Hang in There Natasa, one of the great things about this business is all the people you meet!  Both the Great and the Not SO Great!

Take Care & Have a Great '08!

Hey, Natasha. I would chalk that up to someone who is just not happy with his current situation. I would understand a little frustration, not cursing mind you. He may have figured out that he may not make as much as he would like on the sale of his home or something like that; do not take it to heart. All my best, Jim.

Thank you all for your kind words. It is just that I still can not believe the words that I have heard just for offering my help. Instead of just saying: "No thank you", someone went on and on with bad words.

Many times I would receive scam e-mails from people offering me millions, informing me that I won on the lottery (the new one is that she is moving to Chicago area and talks about it on 2 pages, but then she requests my information that no one is requesting), but even I know all those are lies I have never replied with insults. I just ignore those kinds of e-mails and hit "spam".

I am just glad that here, in Active Rain, I am meeting so great and supportive people.

As Scarlett said at the end of movie "Gone with a wind": "Tomorrow is another day." :-)
