Florida Tax Free Weekend August 3rd - 5th 2018

is good news - bad news

What is Florida Tax Free Weekend?

Florida Tax Free Weekend or the Sales Tax Holiday ia usually the weekend before school starts to give consumers a break on their back to school shopping.

This year the Tax Free Weekend starts at 12:01am on Friday, August 3th and ends at 11:59pm on Sunday, August 5th. During that time, certain school supplies and clothing can be purchased tax free.

The bad news.

This year, technology items up to $750 are not included in Tax Free Weekend like they were last year. This exclusion is the latest addition to changes that were made back in 2016 when the tax holiday was shortened to 3 days from 10 day and the tax free savings on clothing was dropped to $60 from $100.

The good news.

You can still save a good amount of money on your shopping this weekend even if you don’t have children going back to school to shop for. In addition to the sales tax savings, many stores are having good sales so the savings can really add up.

What items are eligible?

Generally speaking, this weekend no sales tax is due on clothes, shoes and some accessories that sell for $60 or less. Most school supplies up to $15 are also exempt.
