Mt Zion in Winnsboro, SC

Located at 250 Zion Street in Winnsboro, SC, Mt. Zion was originally built as a college and dedicated in 1777. Though the building was never fully used for it's intended purpose, it has served as a school on several occasions, the last being as an intermediate school where I myself attended in 4th and 5th grade. Today to old building is vacant but still an interesting sight as the center piece for a park and walking trail.

Things sure do change over time JL. Maybe one day your former school will again serve as a building for learning.  All the best

Hopefully the building will not go to waste.

Such a shame they couldn't 'renovate' or repurpose such an iconic building, JL. My high school sits in the same state and to me, it's just so sad!

Hope you have a great week away!

There is an effort to secure funds to renovate the building now.

Good morning Debe. What an ominous looking building. Would have been scary for a 4th grader.

Parts of the building were a little spooky as I recall.

There is something extra special in retracing our old footsteps.  Not long ago, I was in the neighborhood I grew up in.  The elementary school looks nearly the same.  The junior high no longer exists, because it burned down decades ago.

It is neat to revisit the past sometimes.

1777 is a heckuva long time and it’s interesting to see something that has some longevity in this young country.
