We love where we live for many reasons - for the comfortable homes that we enjoy, for the proximity to work, to dining, to entertainment, and for a lot more.
Herberger Theater Center is a Downtown Phoenix attraction. Besides stage performances, it also has various programs and events to engage with artists, patrons and viewers of all ages. One such event is the monthly themed exhibition. Every month The Herberger Art Gallery publishes on its web-site a "Call to Arists" Prospectus, inviting local Arizona painters, sculptors, photographers to submit their artistic applications. A curator and a jury, using a blind jurying process select the exhibits for the next month's show. To participate, artists must be residing in Arizona, the artwork must be available for the dates of the exhibition and must be for sale, with a maximum price of $3,000.

The artists whose work is selected are notified and also are invited to be present at the opening reception. I enjoy attending the exhibition openings because the artists are present and there is always an interesting story that is connected to their work.
Included in this post are photos from my most recent visit to the Herberger Art Gallery. The themes were "Repetition" and "The Art of Architecture" - both topics very close to my heart. I invite you to look at the installation above "Making a Point 2" by Heidi Dauphin. Beautiful symmetry, patterns. Media is sharpened pencils, and many of them, over 900.
Artist Sue Norton-Scott had an interesting story behind her current exhibit - the pink figure in the middle square on the bottom line of the installation is an X-ray of her heart, actually.

I have walked so many times by the Esplanade buildings in the Biltmore area. It was a pleasure to see how photographer Ira Thomas had captured the repeated elements of these elegant buildings.

After I walked out of the exhibition, with a sharper eye, I took the photos below - the Phoenix Skyline by the Theater Center, and the new sculpture by the Theater Entrance.
The current month's Call to Artists Prospectus is themed "Artist Inspirations" - inviting local artists to submit their artistic applications by September 21, 2018.
The exhibit will be on display March 1 - April 28, 2019.
