San Jose Celebrates National Night Out Tues., August 7
by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
The City of San Jose, Calif. celebrates National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7th.
National Night Out is a chance to meet and spend time with your neighbors as well as law enforcement, public safety and government officers and strengthen relationships.
The “35th Annual National Night Out” will involve over 17,000 communities from all 50 States, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime”.
National Night Out is designed to:
(1) Heighten crime and drug awareness;
(2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts;
(3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships; and
(4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and working together to promote safety.
On August 7th, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout San José and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend an evening outside with neighbors and police.
Many neighborhoods throughout San José will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, barbeque and informal gatherings. The important thing is to spend some time enjoying your neighborhood and getting to know your neighbors while relaxing in the front yard with neighbors and watch the kids play. You’ll be supporting crime prevention efforts in San José while celebrating your neighborhood.
For example, Good Samaritan Episcopal Church on Union Ave. near Highway 85 invites neighbors to join them to meet fire and police officers, play with bubbles and enjoy a movie between 6 pm and 8 pm.
This year, approximately 185 neighborhoods are registered and many more unregistered San José neighborhoods will show their support for National Night Out by enjoying an evening with their neighbors and local police officers.
Questions regarding National Night Out should be directed to the San José Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at (408) 277-4133.
Please consider participating in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7th and Give Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party.
National Night Out is always celebrated on the first Tues. in August in every state and U.S. territory except for Texas which celebrates on the first Tues. of Oct.
