As Bloggers, we of course feel that this is a great way to get our thoughts and messages across to others. Do people that plaster bumper stickers on their cars feel the same way? We all see them everyday. In fact, we are guilty of pulling up closer to read the fine print. I saw one the other day that said, "I Love my Wife." Did he put it on his car with his own free will or did his wife tell him to put that on. Don't get me wrong...It is very nice that he feels this way but hey, does it change the way that I feel about him...or her?

People have political stickers on their car and sometimes forget to take them off. (I hope Ross Perot wins the election). Lots of funny ones, dirty ones and even ones that tell us what we can do with our horns!

Along with this conversation goes the magnets that we love to have on our cars. There have been success stories when agents are at a light or in a parking lot and a customer approaches them. The first thing I thought about was that I had to watch how I drove, if I had my name on my car. The nametag took some getting used to, especially when people call you by your name and you think they know you.

I kinda like some bumper stickers. I think they are fun and catchy ones stay with you

I also heard that a hair dryer is the best way to remove them. I never understood why parents of honor roll students have to tell us over and over again! :)

We've got an agent that has his website on a bumper sticker, and he seems to get pretty good visits from it.

I agree with your comment on driving skills.  I get the bird about once a week...

Jim...  We've had a great success with the magnets and also we had our Nissan Armada - vehicle wrapped with our company name and logo, which has also added great success to our business.

Magnetic auto signs are definitely a good idea. Why not use our autos as traveling billboards?

I use magnetic signs, and generally I like them, but I lost one already, and of course there's always a joker that will turn your sign inside out in the parking lot while you are in the store.

Thanks all. Michael, getting your car wrapped is a true committment. I have thought about it but it is not for everyone! Kevin, sorry about that..I thought it would be funny!

I had magnetic signs when I first started in the business.  An uninsured, unlicensed driver hit me on purpose with an unregistered car just to collect insurance money - and of course I got the ticket (I was more likely to pay.)  That turned me off magnetic signs permanently.

I agree that they can help get your name out there, but what is the quality of the lead you are generating?  Are they:

  1. qualifed
  2. committed to the process
  3. loyal to you

Usually the answers are, in order, "No.", "No.", and "No!".  I don't want to work with everyone - my specialty is luxury homes, and luxury homeowners do not drive around with notepads looking for people with magnetic signs on their cars so they can do business with them.  Instead, they depend on their referral networks.  Skip the signs, and the bumper stickers - get out there and meet people face to face.

John, That is unbelievable! Did they collect the insurance money? And they hit you because you were a Realtor? Don't they know we are in a housing slump? I agree that the signs are not for everyone. I have had many schools of thought. My last company, I had generic company signs on my car and of course they did nothing for me.

I think bumper stickers can be a good thing....depending on what they say! If it has your website address on it, and it's easy to remember, you just might get more traffic sitting in traffic - LOL!

Sadly, there are people out there who have to let you know what they stand for, agree with, disagree with, or do for their hobbies. I have actually speeded up on the expressway to see who was sitting in the driver's seat and what they look like because the bumper stickers made them sound so strange.

Do some people just find the trashiest, weirdest bumper stickers they can and say "Cool! That's sooo me!!". Scary. I've seen some pretty strange looking people in the driver's seat! Some cars you just quickly move to another lane after reading the bumper/window/fender stickers to feel safer. Excessive gun references, kill all the whatevers, that kind of thing I like to avoid. I once had a guy come halfway through his window at me with a bat at a light because I simply made eye contact with him and smiled I didn't do anything to him that would warrant his reaction - they're out there folks! Times like that you wish those signs weren't on the car!

I saw a lady yesterday that had so much stuff in her car that she didn't have room for a passenger, and couldn't see out the back window  (yes, the Beanie Babies were piled too high). Her bumper sticker read: I brake for yard sales! No kidding? Gee. I sure couldn't tell.

On the subject of tasteful magnetics - I love them because I can take them off and be completely incognito if I want to, and then slap them back on when I'm dressed to the nines with hair, nails and makeup done and ready to do business.

Since my second business sort of grew out of using Send Out Cards so successfully for our other business (22 years), and having so many people ask me to show it to them, I now have two sets of magnetics, depending on which business I am representing, and where I'm going. I need the flexibility of those magnetic signs.

Jim, I can identify with getting used to having your number on your vehicle for all to see - it makes you a more careful, thoughtful, more patient kind of driver...just in case!!

Ok, Barb, Fess up, what did you do to that guy with the bat...cut him off, extend a finger, something. There has got to be more to the story! Enquiring minds need to know. The other thing your response made me think of is that I can get internet access on my phone. If I see an interesting web address on a car, I will actually look it up while I am dri...I mean, after I pull over and check all my mirrors for a safe area to stop and review my wireless device in a safe and responsible manner.

No, ironically, he must have just not liked my face! I have signs on my car, so the finger extending, tailgating, cutting off alter ego has to wait until they come off - LOL! Just demure little me sitting there with a stupid grin on my face for another human being. It's that "what are YOU looking at?" mentality, or maybe someone in the same color car did him dirt and he thought it was me. Oh well.

Now Jim... I'm glad to see how responsible you are! Most people got out that phone and drove with a knee or just a few fingers while they checked it out and sent a text message to someone else! If anyone just recognized themselves...eyes back on the road! Hang up and drive (and finish your Big Mac - LOL)

I use a real estate sticker from www.realestatesticker.com.  Works well and get alot of comments about it.  I think it depends on location also.  Im with coldwell banker, so there isn't much promotional material like remax has.
