Getting to know Brevard, NC

Over the last several years, Brevard, North Carolina has made it on to so many top 10 lists that I've lost count. Best place to retire...best place for mountain biking...best place to raise an outdoor kid...best place to get a local craft beer.  We've always loved living in Brevard and now, the secret is out. Certainly we've seen a lot of growth in the area, but it is still the warm, small town that we first fell in love with.

Located in the south western part of North Carolina, Brevard is about 45 minutes from Asheville or about 45 minutes to the Sapphire/Cashiers area.  It's also only about an hour from Greenville, South Carolina. We are literally surrounded by state and national forest land including Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Forest, and Gorges State Park and just a short drive to Cesar's Head in South Carolina, making the Brevard area ideal for anyone who enjoys outdoor living.

Finding a home in or around the immediate downtown Brevard area is one of the most requested areas in Transylvania County. And why not! These 5 square miles that are considered the City of Brevard and the county seat have so much to offer that it's an ideal place to live if you covet the convenience of walking to nearby restaurants, art galleries, events, and all the things that make the area so desireable. There's a variety of restaurants offering selections in seafood, Mexican, down home BBQ, burgers, and Italian (to name just a few) and they're all in a 2-3 block radius.  In between you'll find an array of retail shops and art galleries, county and city services, a hardware store, and the post office.

The Transylvania County library, located two blocks from Main Street is a book-lovers dream come true. It also offers a variety of programs and concerts throughout the year for all ages.

During the spring and summer months, the much anticipated White Squirrel Festival followed by the Fourth of July Festival brings artisans and entertainers from across the southeast to the downtown streets for locals and visitors alike to enjoy. The summer months also mark the return of Tuesday night street dances along Main Street.

The real estate market in the downtown area includes condominiums as well as a wide variety of single family homes in every price range. Best of all, no matter where you buy, the small town feel of Brevard will make you feel welcome.
